Sherwood 5.1 receiver 77+ship

I have had the Sherwood 6108 for a while now and I am very pleased with it. Highly recommend it for a budget home theater system. This one has DTS, Dolby Digital 5.1, sub pre-out, and digital (2 coax & 1 optical) inputs.

Got this at Fry's a couple weeks ago for my bedroom. Hooked it up to a HSU Ventriliquist set with the STF-2 sub and it is awesome. Has hook-ups for everything, except component video, which should go direct anyway. Not the most impressive visually, and the remote is dull, just rows of small buttons, but if you are buying for the digital sound, you can't beat it.

My main system is an HK with a mix of speakers that cost more than the HSU system, but I like the bedroom system better.

If you have been wanting to upgrade to digital sound but can't afford it, jump on this, you will be glad you did. I am still amazed I got a receiver like this for $79.00!

Sherwoods are nice. I still have an older 6090R. It's rated at 60wx5 at 0.07 THD but actually puts close to that amount at 0.02 THD as i found out later on a review of the unit. Most sub-$500 receivers nowadays that brag of 100x5 and higher barely even put 25w to each speaker in the real world.

I am a 6090R owner as well, very happy with the unit.

It sounds like I'm buying one. I want to be able to listen to my Manu Chao downloads over my Advents, which are currenly connected to a cheap-tastic Aiwa.

In my experience they are pretty good, I prefer Pioneer and Sony over them in my experiences though..

Eh, maybe I'm just smokin' crack then😉

<-- has a pioneer setup (well partially anyway).

Sweeeeet deal man!! Sherwood receivers are the nicest budget receivers out there. Read the reviews they blow away pioneer and sony units.

HOT HOT HOT! I need to get a receiver for my dad, his old receiver/EQ is fading in and out now (dying?) Thanks Jokersmoker 😛

Just a note for you guys, it doesn't have S-Video inputs at all. Made the deal completely dead for me, but for those who don't mind using an external box or who don't use S-video, go for it. Sherwood is a better brand than their reputation would imply. Don't buy sony though, worked at Best Buy for a couple years and that was the number one return. They don't handle low impedence speakers well and blow their amp.

I think I'll jump on this tomorrow...just what I was looking for, thanks JS! 🙂

Seems like a good deal for the money. Here is the closest thing I could find to a review. The original link appears to be dead right now, so this is cached on google.

the original review still works fine for me.

contrary to the author's opinion, I don't think it looks ugly...receivers and CD players and whatnot all look about the same to me - buttons on a black or silver face...

thats not really a review, thats a guys 2 cents, try looking at other sherwood budget receiver reviews like older models n stuff, rate right up there with onkyo, yamaha... hmm cant think of any other good budget receiver manufactures
I used to be an avid audio freak, had subscriptions to all the audio mags...
