So I bought a fairly nice sheet set from overstock at the beginning of this summer.
Sheet set link
It's a sateen weave, 600 thread count, 100% combed cotton. Admittedly, I didn't pair it with a comparable mattress pad. The pad I bought is not currently listed at overstock, so I assume it has been discontinued for one reason or another.
Within 2 weeks of use, the fitted sheet began pilling. I figured the sateen weaving had pilled, so I gave it a few more weeks and then ran a lint remover (the electric variety) over the fitted sheet to remove the pills. All was well for about a month, and then the pills reappeared on the fitted sheet again. I'm wondering if it couldn't have been caused by a poorly constructed mattress pad. After closer inspection, it appears that the pillowcases also are beginning to pill, which makes me rethink the mattress pad hypothesis.
Do you think I just got bad sheets? I'm fed up with this and will replace whatever is necessary to have soft non-pilling sheets. Can anyone recommend a vendor? I'm thinking I should just go to BB&B or LNT, but then I'd be paying for their markups...
