Sheets of Paper per Tree

Hi. Does anyone here know about how many sheets of paper come from a given volume of wood. Say a cubic foot or an average (I don't know what average would mean here) sized tree?

If memory serves, it takes about twice as much weight of raw wood to make a given weight of paper. You may want to look up information on pulp and paper research on the net.

Remember folks, trees used for paper (and other wood products too, but especially paper) are typically farmed birch trees. They are planted and harvested several years down the road. Birch is used because the wood is already fairly lightly colored, and thus doesn't require as much bleaching.

Actually, according to Paper U, 1/3 of paper comes from recovered wood, ie sawdust / shavings from other wood cutting processess

You never hear the tree huggers cry when corn, soybeans or wheat is harvested, only trees... Yet all are farmed in much the same way. Why?

Aren't they the ones screaming for conservation of paper products? When that vast majority of paper products come from farmed trees?

I've also seen tree hugger types piss and moan over the use of cut Christmas trees. Explain that one.

i think their main beef is that animals live in the trees or something. at least i think that's their thing...

When I was young, I had a tree house in a lemon tree in our back yard.

BTW, animals live in corn fields too.

For those too lazy to read the articles I linked to (I would be), it comes down to this: 1 cord of wood (around 2 tons) will produce around a quarter million sheets of 20 pound 8.5x11" paper.

Actually I bet the government doesn't want you to know this. I think it'd be cool if a paper company grew hemp (non thc). They could probably compete quite well against tree based paper companies if hemp yields more paper.
Also it'd be funny to see dopeheads raid the field only to find out it won't get them high.

America Jr......errrr....I mean Canadia grows hemp. It has nothing to do with the paper companies. I am sure they would love to have a cheaper way of making a better product. It is also great for clothing and other products. It is the government that does not want it used because of the trace amounts of THC in it.

The government doesn't want you to know this because their lobbyists don't want you to know this. The government knows very well that hemp is the best crop farmers can grow nowdays. That's why the government spent lots of money trying to talk farmers into growing hemp during the wars with their pro-hemp ad campaigns. Then, right after, lots of big name cotton and textile folks put a stop to farming hemp. Tree farmers were part of the anti-hemp movement as well.

I may be wrong, but I think most potheads know the difference in hemp and cannabis.
