Is it just me or is it ironic that you are "old-fashioned" enough to ask her dad for her hand in marriage, yet you're currently having sex with her (sorry if I'm wrong on this point, but if you're staying at a B&B for 3 days it seems like a safe assumption). I guess the irony dissolves if you've also gotten her dad's permission to deflower her prenuptially, but that doesn't seem likely  Anyway, congrats on finding the one, the three years that I've been married have been the best of my life.

So I did the hard part, saved up and bought the engagement ring. Now I have to keep my mouth shut and pretend everything is normal until mid April. Meanwhile I have to drive 5 hours (each way) to go see her dad and formally ask him (it?s his only daughter). I have absolutely no friggen clue as to how to bring it up and talk about it. We have reservations at this bed and breakfast for a three day weekend the middle of next month. I have never been to this island and have no idea where to take her or how to ask.....

Yes i know i am being a wuss, but I love this girl and she means the world to me.

I got engaged just after Christmas this past year. Yeah, it's a cinch. I tried coming up with what I was going to say and thought I did alright with it all, but she told me later that once I started and she knew it was coming she was so overwhelmed and wrapped up in the moment she pretty much ignored what I was saying and can't remember what I actually said anymore :p

I guess she knew when to say yes though.

I didn't ask her dad before. I knew they liked me fine.

And yeah, the easy part is almost over for you. I'm trying to plan the day of now and man, what a headache.

Yea, I really dont have to ask the dad, however, its something that I have wanted to do out of respect. Where did you ask your SO if you dont mind me asking?

*edit*
Spelling.

She and I live in Vancouver. Her family lives in the interior of BC... The Okanagan. They have a nice place on a cliff overlooking the lake. It was a dark snowy night, and we went for a walk down to this viewpoint where you can see the lights of all the houses around there lighting up the water and snow.

Make it special, but don't make a huge deal out of it or it'll ruin the surprise.

In the end, if she says yes then thats all that matters, all the rest is just little details.

I totally forgot to even get down on my knee or anything like that when I actually asked my now wife.

I suggest calling her by your ex-girlfriend's name during the proposal - always a good ice breaker
