Unfortunately it's pretty common for female gymnasts to have short careers. The sport favors smaller girls and it is abusive to their joints.

considering they start at 3-5 and by 6-7 they are doing pretty rough stuff its no suprise.

One of the girls on my daughters team had to have surgery on her foot last month. Another broke her arm last year doing a routine.

Gymnastics is a pretty hard sport. not just in skill but on the body. the amount of exercise these girls do is amazing.

I don't know what it is, but it seems major gymnasts manage to remain cute and perky for freaking decades (all the dopamine from exercising all the time, or something?). I mean, are you more likely to be convinced to give money to <whatever-ails-children-these-days> by Joan Rivers, Betty White, Barbara Walters...or by Shawn Johnson, Mary Lou Retton, Shannon Miller, et al?
