each and everytime after i shave, whether it be with the 3 blade razors 2 blade or 1 blade or even the electric dry shavers i always get super irritated skin on the two downward lines on my nostrals and it gets really really really really red and irritated and only 3 days of heavy moisturizing with lotions seems to fix this... i hate it does anyone else have these problems and seem to find a solution? some kinda better shaving cream or something to use... right now i use the equate sensitive skin shaving cream.. i even put it on and wait about 5 minutes before shaving..

Use Aveeno shaving gel.
Text

And Nivea after shave FTW.

Also, since it sounds like you have sensitive skin, stop using a razor once the lubricating strip starts fading away. I know it will seem like a waste of money at first, but it will help. And stick with the same type of razor, stop switching. Your skin needs to adjust to just one! (Mach3 Turbo or power is good).

Oh, I also suggest shaving at night before you go to bed. Any bumps, for me at least, went away by the morning.

Get a washcloth as hot as you can stand it and put on your face (where you are going to shave). When it starts to cool off repeat and keep this up for 5 minutes

Immediately put Neutrogena shaving gel on your face. Trick is to initially put it on everywhere and then rub it in a second time.

With a Mach3 razor shave your entire face with the grain (or towards the floor).

When done put shaving gel on your entire face again and this time shave against the grain (toward the ceiling).

Take a shower.

After the shower put on the Neutrogenia after shave lotion.

The Neutrogenia products have anti-irritant/anti-rash stuff in it. Previous to doing this I hated shaving (electric, razor) and when I did shave it was with the grain and once every 3-4 days. Hope this helps.

Hm, I didn't have any luck with Neutrogena products. Aveeno really helped me. Luckily the sensitivity went away senior year in high school and I can use anything now.

hmmm i never really had problems. I use ivory nonmoisurizing bar of soap for shaving cream, and rubbing alcohol for aftershave. It's probably because I live in dry So. Cal. that my skin got used to dryness. I just hate the feeling moisurizures and oils give my skin. feels like something is on me.

of course, using soap/rubbing alcohol method hurt and felt irritated like hell for the first month, but I weathered through it, and now it's not so bad. my skin for some reason never gets iritated/cracks/goes red

Ouch - I do NOT recommend this method for sensitive skin!

That is also good advice that I left out (Doghouse did mention it though).

Even though my skin has toughened up over the years, I still shave with the grain first, then against it last.

What brand of razor blades are you using?

I use a Gillette Sensor that accepts 2 and 3 blade refills.

A couple of weeks ago I decided to save a few bucks and buy Personna 3 blades that fit in the Sensor-style razor. They were about $3 cheaper for a 5 pack. The first time I shaved with the Personna blades it felt like I was shaving with old hedge clippers - the feel was so rough it physically hurt my skin. I figured maybe I had a bad blade so I switched in a new one from the same 5 pack. Same result. I was so shocked I couldn't believe it.

That afternoon I went out and bought the Gillette Sensor 3 blade refills. Smooth as silk. Best $6 I ever spent.

My skin is extremely smooth and soft and fairly sensitive.

YMMV.

Anybody want 3 free unused Personna Sensor-style 3 blade refills? You pay for postage.

i dont use any aftershave because it all irritates my skin...but its a lot harder for me to shave if i have not just had a hot shower.

I hate using my quattro to shave above my upper lip since it's really sensitive. It feels like the individual hairs are being pulled out. :p My Norelco electric razor does a wonderful job in that area though.

well i just finished shaving with a brand new little 2 blade shaver from the dollar store with the little lotiony pad thing, and i tried splashing hot water on my face to keep it nice and wet (this was after a shower) then i went and shaved with the grain with the same shaving cream and then re-lathered and shaved against the grain with more shaving cream and it seemed to work better... didn't feel as abrasive afterwards then right when i was done as my face started to turn red around the corner of my lips i took some curve aftershave lotion stuff i was given a while back as a present and put it on.. so im clean shaven and i didn't get hurt in the process, maybe it was my technique :) i used to go against the grain first just to try to get a closer shave faster.. maybe thats why it hurt so bad.

my old roommate used to shave with water alone, IF even that.

my skin is pretty sensitive to shaving, but luckily I have a job that doesn't require me to do it more than once a week. but, like someone said above, what seems to be the best idea for me is very warm water, and do it at night - any redness/irritation/etc is gone by morning.

Also, I used to shave with nothing but a razor, and I had to shave every day. Eventually I got lazy and started using water. I tried shaving cream, but felt like a pussy, so I went back to using water.
