Shaving with straight edge blade?

Anyone around here use these? I'm currently using a Gilette Mach3, but i'm not too impressed as it doesn't appear to be precise enough to get my facial hair to look the way i want it to. Would i have better results with a straight edge blade? Aside from the chance of slashing an artery that is :D

I have the thickest facial hair ever and Mach3 works great for me, perhaps you need a new blade?

It's not that, it's just that my mustache needs constant reshaping for it to look good, and it just seems a little hard to do with the Mach3. It's just too bulky.

If you do get one, be sure to practice on a balloon first so you don't slice your neck open. :)

That's why you need to buy a rechargeable mustache/beard trimmer like this, for example.

I have a Phillishave. It can only be used for trimming, not shaving, as it doesn't shave closely enough.

Hahah, i knew someone would ask! Nah, nothing specific about today. These are just questions that piled up over the last few months, and i finally got around to asking them all. Oh and i just posted another one! :D

Yeah i was wondering this a while ago, what do people use to clean goatees and mustashes. Sure u can use a mini clippers thingy tool to trim, but how do you get in there close on the edges for a clean shave...? I agree the mach 3 is waayy to bulky.

Better clippers/trimmers (electric) have very fine blades...it's the one the barber uses to get down almost to skin. Get one of those; should work. :)

Mustaches don't look good unless you're Burt Reynolds.

I use straight ravors exclusively. In the right hands they are extremely precise. You can cut yourself very badly very easily, and the blade is so sharp you won't know it till you see the blood. If you avoid self mutilaion you also run the risk of cutting off more than you intended, the blade is not forgiving. i would suggest going to a barber and letting him do it a couple of times so you can see and feel what he is doing. good luck.

I use straight...it's not for use when you're in a hurry...better to stick it out with the mach3 than rush with a straight.

I'm thinking of using the Mach3 for my neck and the straight for my mustache. That way, if i screw up, at least i won't bleed to death :D

Bah neck bleeds are nothing!

Im sure that with practice you could get very good at it. Do the baloon thing a bunch of times until you feel comfortable with doing it on your face. If your hand is steady i cant forsee you doing anything to stupid, like rushing into it and cutting your jugular.

I second an electric. Very deep, close shave - better than any shave I've ever gotten with my Mach3. Face feels nice and smooth, although it gets VERY irritated when I sweat after shaving
