Seriously try shaving after showering or get a fogless mirror for $5 from walmart (if you need it...) and shave right before you leave the shower, it will soften your beard alot and help.

Using norelco here. It's pretty good if you shave every day. If you don't shave for a while, you are in trouble, so I keep Mach 3, gilette gel, and gilette gel aftershave for backup. I get severe irritation on my nech from shaving sometimes. I think the hairs get under my skin or something.

SuperTool-
I was about the make the same exact post as you, I do the same thing as you, shave /w an electric (Norelco Advantage) and keep a razor handy as well. I also get irritation on my neck right next to my adam's apple on occasions, I hate it :|

I've gotten real spoiled useing the Mach 3. I ran out of blades the other day and used a bic razor instead and I almost needed a transfusion.

Most any gel and cream work fine for me. Must be real cream, not that foam stuff which really dries your skin. And I always pre-soak my face with a hot towel first.

i dont like to shave because i get razor bumps. i use clippers instead, just as close IMO, and no irritation, plus its a LOT easier to make myself look pretty :p

any downside to this?

Sacotool, RIGHT ON.

I shave immediately when I get out of the shower, and actually have even started to shave IN the shower. They make special fog-free mirrors on arms just for that purpose. All shaving cream/gel does is create a lather which holds moisture on your skin. Water is moiture, and if it's there already, and has been there for a while (as it is when you are just out of the shower), the whiskers are as soft as they will ever be. I have not cut myself shaving ONE TIME in about the past 5 years since I learned not to use anything but water. For some reason, when I use cream, I slice myself up like a ham.

When using an electric, you have to use it for at least 3-4 weeks before it starts working really good. I just switched from a old norelco to a new one and it said it would take three weeks for my skin to get use to the new shave. At first, it was barely cutting anything...stubbles all over. Now after about two months its super close, super smooth.

I shave in the shower. Use a hot towel, cover your neck and face with it for a bit, then put the shaving cream on and shave away. I think shaving is a huge pain in the rear.

Wll Kid do you have a beard or not? I don't have any facial hair and don't intend to (right now at least).

I used to have problems with ingrown whiskers. A lot of probs. I started shaving in the shower and it helped comfort. I washed my face first thing in the shower and then shaved last. I got the same results shaving immediately out of the shower. Still had lots of ingrown whiskers. I started using electric (Braun Flex) on a clean dry face and it helped the ingrowns a lot. I normally skip on Wed and Sat to almost completely eliminate ingrowns. My beard is only moderate so I have no problem skipping a few days and then shaving with electric. Just takes more time.

I once read that using hot water swelled the face so that the shave was not as close after the skin around the follicles went back to normal. Dunno.

i usually use an electric...which i believe gives me the closest shave...but sometimes when i get lazy and skip out for like the weekend...the electric just doesn't cut it (no pun intended) so i have to use my mach3/gel to get it down and sometimes if thats not close enough, i go back and use the electric ;)

and i also usually shave before i take a shower so that after i'm done, the shower will loosen up the skin so you don't get as much ingrown =p

I shave during my morning shower, using a Mach 3. At times I wish I could grow more facial hair, but then I just remind myself that shaving's a bitch! Alas, for me, it's either have a scraggly-ass wannabe beard, or bite the bullet and shave... Damned if you do, damned if you don't!

I used to get all sorts of nick and cuts, started shaving right in shower with just plain soap. Worked great, but finally just bought an electric razor this weekend, just too much of a pain using a blade. :) Just out of curiousity, why do you need a mirror to shave??

I don't know why everyone's so high on Gillette crap. I used to hate shaving because my neck looked like hell. Bumps so large and painful you would have thought I had warts. I switched to a Schick Tracer FX and 5 years later I haven't had a single razor bump.

Edge Gel is pretty good stuff.. I like the menthol one because it feels cool. And I can only shave right after I get out of the shower or else my skin/hairs don't get as near as soft as I need them to get.
