You sure are!

My brush and razor showed up while I was home for lunch. Mixed up a little batch of cream to see what it's like. It smells so much better/richer mixed up than in the container.

so would this help with someone wh gets major "burn" after shaving?

Every time i shave my face turns red and it hurts for hours. I have tried diffrent razors and gells and nothing seems to work. Granted the Mach 3 turbo has been the best so far. So now i don't shave very much but prefer the clean shaven look.
Well, it wouldn't hurt to try. The main reasons for razor burn are not enough hydration on the face, too much pressure on the razor (or incorrect technique), and (often) too many blades in the razor (it may only take one blade to cut a whisker, but a multi-bladed razor shoves across more blades whether you want it or not).

Hydration: Shave after a nice, steamy shower (when you towel-off, don't dry your face), or at least wash your face with a gentle soap and rinse with hot water. Then splash hot (not scalding) water on your face for a good 30 seconds, or, put a hot towel on your face for a couple minutes.

Avoid a shaving cream/gel/foam that comes out of a pressurized can. The ingredients can actually dry the face (and then they have to put in artificial lubricants which themselves can cause irritation). Neutrogena Shaving Cream and King of Shaves gel are OK products you can probably find locally; Sharps Kid Glove, Molle', and Cremo-Cream are excellent products. The *best* products, and the best for your skin, are the "old school" creams and soaps that require a shaving brush: Williams Shaving Mug Soap, Surrey shaving soaps, and Polmolive lather cream (red label) are widely available and OK to start with; Proraso is a big step up, and then there is the "high-end" stuff like Art of Shaving, Truefitt & Hill, Trumper, etc. (I put "high end" in quotes because its really not that much more expensive per shave). The Proraso shaving brush is OK; its made of boar hair, which is not nearly as good as the badger hair used in better brushes, but it'll get you on your way (just make sure you shampoo the brush or soak it in a mild Borax solution--the "20 mule team" stuff--before you use it for the first time, as the smell can be reeeeeally nasty if you don't).

Technique: OK, you're ready to shave. You want to gently shave with the grain of your beard, using smooth strokes and just enough pressure to keep the razor on your face. Don't hack or swipe at your face. Avoid going over the same spot over and over again. After you're finished, re-wet your face with hot water and relather. This time shave at a right-angle to the beard, again using smooth strokes and light pressure. Then rinse off with cold water to close the pores and clean off the remnants of the lather. Use just a dab of an alchohol-free aftershave rubbed into your face.

(If you can't figure out the grain of your beard, or it goes all over the place, try just shaving straight down for the first pass, and straight up for the second.)

Based on ViperGTS' suggestion, I picked up this razor and brush set.

I picked up a tub of Trumper's sandalwood scented creme from here.

If you shop around, you might can find cheaper shave cream elsewhere. I based my purchase of that brand because from what I've read, a tub of Trumpers lasts quite a long time.

The forum at the shavemyface.com site mantic mentioned has a wealth of information and helpful people.

Regular "Off Topic" readers may remember a number of posts here over the past few months regarding "traditional" wetshaving. Target department stores in the US are now carrying the Proraso line of wetshaving products in a new "spa" isle (probably next to the women's cosmetics isle). Proraso is a well-known (in the wetshaving community) Italian company, known for their products with Eucalyptus, which makes for an incredible cooling effect after rinse your face off. Great stuff, especially in the summer. So if you've ever been curious (or skeptical) about traditional shaving, here's a great (and inexpensive) opportunity to try it. Pick up either the shaving soap ($4)or the tube (not can) of shaving cream ($6), and the shaving brush ($12). Use the razor of your choice.

No guys, this guy is legit. See?? No black guy avatar!

Wow, that's a nice looking set (never thought I'd say that to a man :Q ). I use a Merkur Progess (adjustable DE) myself; the Merkur stuff is really well-built. Trumper's is really top-shelf stuff--you'll get six months out of that tub, easy, assuming you use it every day (its amazing how little cream you need to whip up a bunch of lather). But if you're like most of us, you'll get a case of Shaving Cream Acquisition Disorder (SCAD) and end up with several others. I must have a dozen different soaps and creams I cycle through, depending on my mood (today was Coates Tea Tree).

Its weird to actually look forward to shaving in the morning.

Hey, if you don't believe me, look up posts from Winston Marmaduke or any of the other dozen-or-so threads about shaving. *shrug*

If u want a great shave dont go with cheap products.

Go with truefitt and hill.

I have the Super Badger Brush and
Shaving cream
and Pre shave oil

and i received the Razor
and Brush and razor stand as a gift from my father.

I enjoy using these products, not only does the shave turn out fantastic but i come out smelling classy and like a gentlemen instead of a 10$ frangrance from walmart.

My girlfriend loves smelling my face and neck after i shave.

I have less ingrown hairs, bumps, and pimples. And i am super sensitive. And on top of that my bread is very tough (Re. Lithuanian - Russian beard).

 No, I'm not a metrosexual. In areas other than shaving, I'm quite ordinary: I go to a "regular" barber, use Suave shampoo, Lever 2000 soap, no funky eye creams or wrinkle salves, etc. As I mentioned in a previous post, I am a raving advocate for traditional shaving products. Call it a hobby. I used an electric shaver for 30 years--2 minutes, zip-zip, and I was done. Yeah, I had a 5 o'clock shadow at 2 o'clock but I just assumed that was normal. Then I met SWMBO, who adored a smooth face on me. So I would shave again in the evening if we were going out. Three years ago we were in Las Vegas for our wedding anniversary and she took me to a place called "The Art of Shaving" for a "old style" shave and haircut. I was astounded at the results--I was constantly stroking my face afterwards (AKA "faceterbating") marveling at the smoothness--and didn't need to shave again for almost two days! So when I got home I bought a Mach3, some Williams Shave Mug Soap, a cheap brush, and went to town. Yeah, it took about a month to get my technique down and not have nicks and cuts, but dang, they were smooth shaves. Then I got on the internet and found places like the MSN Wetshavers Group (and later shavemyface, badgerandblade and menessentials), discovered there were people as nutty as me, and found the products that REALLY gave great shaves (and if you think I'm into grooming, you should see some of *those* guys!). Now my face is baby-butt smooth all day, and the experience is so enjoyable (with the different smells, the warm lather on my face, the sound of the razor neatly slicing through the forest, etc.) I don't mind spending an extra 15 minutes in the morning doing it (and this from a man who would rather wake up at the crack of Noon). And, of course, SWMBO couldn't be happier.

So...I guess I do it to get laid.

It does seem metro on the surface and IMO the more "extreme" guys do take it to a metro level, but, naw....I don't think wetshaving is a metro thing to do...more along the lines of retro. ;)

Lord, you don't need to spend nearly that much if you don't want. If you want an old fashioned safety razor you can find them on eBay; there are "new" razors from Weishi or Parker for around $20, or Merkur starting around $30. Or stick with a Sensor/Mach3/Quattro/Fusion if it works for you. Proraso has a very good shaving cream and a shaving soap too, $4-6 (a cake of williams or Surrey shaving soap is about a buck). A "beginner" boar brush will set you back less than $15; a "decent" badger brush will start at $25. The brush is probably the most important item.

T&H's Trafalgar shave cream is one of my all-time favorites--a really incredible scent! Their 1805 scent is nice too, but I like J. Peterman's 1903 better--its similar to 1805 but stronger. I was disappointed with T&H's new "Ultimate Comfort" shave cream though.

No real scent to speak of (though its supposed to be that way), it didn't hydrate as well as their older products for me (the cream consistancy's a little different), and it didn't give me as good of a shave as their other shave creams. I will credit its lather as being a little "thicker" though; I always thought lather from T&H's creams were a tiny bit on the "thin" side compared to, say, Trumper or Coates (thats just a nitpick though).

Very true, there is no scent and the lather is thicker however, T&H's hallmark is using VERY THIN lather.
