I've been shaving with a Mach 3 for awhile now, but haven't switched the blades yet. I have 3 blades, and have rotated constantly with them. I've recently developed a pretty annoying case of "shaving burns" i guess it's called, I just prefer to think of it as shaving acne or something like that. How often do you change your blade, buy a new set of blades, and do you shave with cold or hot water? Lastly, what kind of shaving gel do u use and how much of it. No one ever taught me to shave, I just kinda went out, bought a Mach 3 and some gilette shaving gel, and experimented. Thanks for helping out a young-in

You should change the blades when it starts ripping out the hairs instead of cutting them.

like yakko said, you should be able to tell when they stop "cutting" the hairs and start "pulling" them. I can get about 5 shaves out of each razor, but I have a goatee so I miss the real heavy stuff.

Get a good electric.

Much easier, less messy and there is waaaaaaaaaaaay less irritation.

Use hot water, it softens the scruff and makes it easier to shave. I do it in the shower with a little fog proof mirror. I make one pass "with the grain" and then another against.

I use the Sensor Excel, the Mach 3 is too big and floppy for my taste. I change the blade once a week, that's about 5-6 shaves. It doesn't make much sense to rotate the blades, they'll just all be used up at the same time. You only need enough gel or shaving cream to just cover the skin. Putting a thick layer on there is a waste.

Actually, COLD water is better for preventing eruption.

I'm really using blades longer than I should I guess.. I get almost double the life you guys are reporting from blades (and I use a Mach 3 as well...)

Out of a Mach3 blade?!

Those things are fsckin' expensive to only shave 5 times with.

getting a nice electric razor definetly would help ( i recommend a braun) however i remember when i first started shaving an electric razor wasnt to effective becuase my face hadnt gotten real 'stubbly' yet- so i had to use a blade.

hot water makes it easier to shave, however using cold water is better for the skin.. and yeah, i also only ever got about a weeks worth of uses out of a razor.

i think gilette makes the shaving cream/gel for that helps reduce razor burn and irratation and stuff like that

believe it or not-- the best / closest shaves i've ever gotten have been with the cheap disposable bic razors. however i've also given myself the most cuts with those.

for now i'll stick to my braun synchro :)

I get about two week's worth out of my Mach 3 blades, shaving every other morning. That's stretching it some, but the blades are expensive, so I go as long as I can with each blade. As far as shaving gel, I don't use the gel anymore. I had some, but I decided I didn't like it and got a big container of Colgate (I think) cream. The cream is much better, in my opinion. Smells better, too. Heh heh. And I shave with hot water, after taking a shower or washing my face with warm water. Even if you're going to use cold water, I would probably still say to have warm water on your face one way or another beforehand. It softens up the hairs and makes for a better shave.

Hope that helps some.

i use an electric on my face, and a razor for my neck hairs because they tend to grow in different directions.

I'm a lazy fscker when it comes to shaving. I only shave once or twice a week.... when I should be doing it everyday. I can use a Mach 3 blade for as long as 2 months (cause I dont shave that often, and I can deal with the ripping out the hair part).

If i remember correctly, the Mach 3 instructions said that once the blue strip on top of the razor was gone, its time to change it. For me, i can get about 10 shaves done before the blue strip is gone and the blades aren't sharp enough.

I used to put a new blade in every Tuesday before I switched over to an electric shaver. I have to admit I like the blade better but the electric was a Christmas present so I am sticking with it for now. I generally don't shave on Saturday or Sunday unless we are going out for an evening with friends or whatnot which is why I changed the blade on Tuesday and used the old blade for the 2 day growth.

Well, I can only get 2-3 uses out of a Mach 3 blade-it doesn't really help that I only shave every 3 months or so (I like it scraggly). I use the Gilette gel and find that it works great. I don't think that shaving is much of an art-it's more or less finding what works the best for you individually.

I'm still on the good old Sensor/Sensor Excel (Cheaper than Mach 3, the recockulous price of Mach 3 refills will keep me from buying it), and I change the blade (none of that rotation) every 5-6 shaves, I guess. BTW, there is no difference that I?ve noticed between men?s and women?s blades, so I buy whichever is in stock, or on sale. I use Nivea men?s shaving gel. I prefer gels to creams. Before Nivea gel came out, I used Gillette gel for extra sensitive skin. I?m one of those people who can?t shave against the grain without great discomfort, so I don?t ever get the absolute closest shave possible, but it?s good enough.

Mach 3, thin layer of shaving gel, hot water on face. Shower also works well.

I shave 2-3 times a week so I use my blade on my fairly course hair until the blue strips become less blue.

Have you considered using "sensative" skin gel for your baby face? ;)
