Shaving Cream

So today I went to the store to buy shaving cream. I have been an avid user of the Gillette Shave Gel for about the past 15 years. Ever since I first started to shave. I went to the small local grocery store for some odds and ends, and I noticed they don't carry Gillette. I didn't feel like driving an extra 20 minutes to Wal Mart to get it, so I decided to try something different. I picked out Barbasol, the same shaving cream my dad has used for decades. At only $2 for a big can of the stuff, I didn't think I could go wrong. I did go wrong! My face feels like I have road rash. It burns.

What kind of shaving cream do you all use? Have you ever tried "Grandpa's Favorite", Barbasol?

Been using Barbasol for quite some time now with no problems.

Perhaps a better alternative for you is dipping your face in milk and having some kittens lick the peach fuzz off?

I shave in the shower. Don't use shaving cream.
I used to use olive oil to shave with. Worked incredibly well.

I havent shaved properly in about 4 months after buying a beard trimmer. I just set it to 0.5mm a go with that... much better than having to shave everyday.

That sounds pretty awesome, may have to try it next time. Would be even cheaper.

I use plain old soap when I'm in the shower. But my mom once did get me some very fancy Aveda shit to shave with. I used it up in a week just to get rid of it and told her not to worry and I could buy my own shaving cream.
Turns out that stuff cost her 50 bucks.

Interesting to see all the answers that shave in the shower with just plain soap. Do you have a mirror in the shower? If so, how do you keep it from fogging up? I can't say I have ever ttried shaving in the shower, nor tried to shave without a mirror.

I shave without mirror. Shave by feel, not by sight. Sideburn trim post shower.
It's amazing how long I can use a razor this way. Dry shave, I get maybe 4 uses from a blade, max.
Literally months since I've replaced razor (Fusion). No pain, no cuts, either.

I have been using Soap for years, first Shaving Soap, then regular soap when that ran out. Before then I used Barbasol and actually just bought some a couple days ago to try again. The best Shave I've ever had though has been using Shaving Lotion. It's kind of like Hand/Skin Lotion and just works great. Unfortunately I have never been able to find it in a store, I bought it from a Melaleuca Distributor years ago.

I have never used barbasol but I have use Edge sensitive skin an it is alright. Then I switched to Gilette Fusion Sensitive and it is worlds better. Expensive but great have cream, minimal pain.

Use my braun 360 with nothing, works damn well, although I usually use soap and a disposable when I wanna be baby faced

I use the back end of electric to trim down. Then I use the electric. Then I use whatever basic shave cream I have + mach 3...by the time I get to the mach 3 it has to do very little work and lasts quite a while.

I don't have a preference. They all seem to be good at cleaning desks in my classroom. Kids love to play in shaving cream, so you just squirt some on the table top and let them draw shapes, letters, numbers, and things of the sort in it. By the time you wipe it off, the table tops are clean!! 🙂

: ) Amanda

Barbasol reminds me of kindergarten when we would put it on our desks and write out names and stuff in it.

cheap shaving cream + a bit of shaving gel. mix and it works great. shaving cream is like 99 cents at wallyworld

THIS. Best stuff ever. I think that this would be more economical over the long run than Barbasol, even with the initial investment of a shaving brush.
