shaver that provides closet shave? electric or disposable?

i grow almost 0 facial hair on my face except for above lips. hate having hair and the hairline up there and was wondering what razor provides the closest shave? from my experiance ive used the gillete fusion razors(the one with 5 blades) and they provide the best shave, but ive never used an electric and always thought they were best suited for guys that grow facial hair all over.
 
if you don't grow any hair on your face just go to the store and get a 20 pack of cheap disposable razors.
 
My sad reality as a darky with thick hair is that, as much as I want to use electrics (and I've tried many), I just can't get a clean shave with them. I've always gotten my best shaves with mach 3s.

I shave my head about once a week and use your standard waHl electric clippers (used by barbers) to get down to a stubble, then use a mach 3 to finish the job.
 
Um, really? No electric will match the closeness of a razor. That said, when I do shave I use electric because it's faster for me and close enough. I still have a mach 3 as back up if needed.
 
I can't grow a full beard, but my cheeks, side burns and chin need shaved every day.

I dropped it the other day and it landed on the shaver head, bending the delicate assembly. I have been using a Mach 3 razor for the last few days. The Mach 3 definitely cuts closer and leaves the skin softer.

I still like electric because it is quicker and easier.

Electric Pros: Quicker, decently close if you have a good model, rarely need new razor heads, never need shaving cream
Electric Cons: Can't shave with damp/wet face, if you aren't used to it it will destroy your face the first few times, expensive

Safety Razor Pros: Closer, softer skin, you're a real man
Safety Razor Cons: Need shaving cream, need wet face, takes longer, can cut yourself if you suck, need to buy razors routinely
 
two blade disposable or mach3. everything else is shit.

there are way too many expensive razors out there with closed backs that are effing useless after the first swipe.

haha, same here man, i hate that thick hair. forces me to shave with a double edged razor so i wont destroy the cartridges in regular razors so fast. but i dont mind, the shave is nice and makes your skin nice too.

anyway, blades will always provide the best shave, a straight razor being the champ--but that is something that you don't need.

some electric razors are good, but they take some time to get used to. I think for your purposes, a simple safety razor with disposable blades would be best. or a cheap electric. you'd probably never have to change the blades if all you get is lip hair--at least 2 or so years...
 
also, I should say that the "lectric shave" or whatever it's called, works for some people--at least they rave about it. It's shave gel designed for use with electrics. I think you have to be a daily shaver to get any benefit from it.

I can get rather shaggy, but for the previous ~3 years, I've downgraded to just using the trimmer on my electric ~ once/week to trim down to 5 o'clock shadow. I dislike shaving, and I've trained my face to hate it even more.
 
I use an electric, but have pretty light growth. Razors (assuming they're fresh/sharp) definitely give a closer shave.

They say they are wet/dry but in reality, your face needs to be very dry for the razor to work well. When it is damp or wet, the razor sticks due to friction. Yes, normally water reduces friction, but trust me... you cannot use the razor I have with a damp face. It needs to be bone dry to work well.

I personally like the Mach 3. It was my first manual razor. Afterwards my dad bought me three well known name brand electric (phillips self cleaning one, one that pumps lotion, braun) which i later threw in the trash. What I hate about electric is that it leaves these little white pussy bumps a day or so after use. I also can't really use it in the shower (even though they say they are water proof). It also dosen't really feel like you shaved after use.

When you use a manual razor against your skin you actually exfoliate your skin because a blade scrapes away dead/old skin from your face. You can't do this with a electric.

Not mine. I don't know the exact model I have, but it's a Panasonic vortex. When I was shaving on a regular basis, once every 2 days or so, (I have a beard now) I used it in the shower. Works great with a wet face.

As far as closeness goes:

1. Straight blade
2. triple blade safety razer
3. single blade disposable razer
4. electric.

But, as far as comfort goes, you could probably reverse that list. I am happy with my Braun 8000 series electric razer. Its very close and very comfortable. Only downside is you have to constantly use the little self wash machine and that uses up the fluid cartridge. Those fluid cartidges are about 15 bucks for a two-pack.

I agree with the above. Best is done by a barber.
But personally I use electric (Norelco Triple Head Rotary)
Does a good job, except the neck is hard to get all the
small ones there. I just don't trust my skills with a blade type.
 
Unless I shave against the grain it always looks like I have some facial hair. 🙁 I've tried a few different ones too but they all result in the same. :\ But I try to avoid shaving a lot because it irritates my acne. 🙁 (I always have sandpaper face if I rub my hand against the grain... 🙁 If I shave against the grain I have none of that)

And as far as I know, you're not supposed to shave against the grain... I heard different reasons but I heard something like ingrown hairs, irritates acne, and I can't remember what else.

I shave against the grain every day, and I assumed that everyone else did.

I used to back in the day. It can be slightly more irritating at first and it is slightly easier to nick yourself, but other than that it's not a problem (and problems disappear when your skin gets used to it).
