LOL, how true, and actually WS is a pretty damm good narrator, it is indeed gold when he grinds this idiot without insulting him once..

He's a hugely experienced narrator, that's for sure, and he's done an asston of voiceover work. Probably more to the point, when you hire William Shatner to talk about your shit, it's because you want William Shatner to talk about your shit. Everyone knows what he sounds like, and you don't get to try to coach him into sounding like something else. It would not have been nearly so mortal a faux pas if the producer hadn't taken the bait and tried to perform an example take, thereby putting himself into the "observer who thinks it's easy" category.

you certainly seem to care a lot about this

I get that it's the director's job to direct, but that was still awesome. He totally nailed the director's take.
I think we pigeonhole stars, especially goofy ones, and underestimate their talents. For the most part, they get to be stars because of talent and hard work. Shatner is FAR from just an overacting horny old man.

I know a dj that used to work for JAM in Dallas. You wouldn't believe how meticulous they are to nail a jingle.
The same copy, done differently for different situations

Yeah the problem is with the director, not with Shatner.

The Futurama gang managed to get a good performance out of him. So, there.

Agree with others, the first take was kinda flat, the second take was great.

Producer got destroyed. The simultaneous playing of both audio clips was hilarious because it showed how closely William Shatner parroted the pace and tone of what the producer wanted.

Shatner can be a dick but I still like him. Too much PC shit going around.

Extremely old.

Old like ...

people keep forgetting Shatner was theatre trained. He was Christopher Plummer's understudy at the Stratford Festival for Henry V back in the fifties.

I preferred the second take as well with the exception that maybe he rushed, "this is William Shatner" a hair. Of course, it also depends on the context of the ad. If this were for a radio program, the first take is better but the first part needed more inflection before "journey with me." Shatner was a bit of a dick when the director didn't give his feedback with confidence. After that, the guy should have known he was taking the bait and Shatner was just reeling him in. My guess is that there is something else going on in the studio though. Maybe the producer was a bit star struck and didn't have the confidence to give Shatner instructions. Or there may have been some stuff earlier on in the studio that gave the impression the producer was inexperienced so Shatner may have been frustrated with the guy already.
