Yesterday I passed out from sharp stomach pains around during my health economics class  and when I came to a few seconds later, everyone including the professor was looking at me . But I was still in a lot of pain so I rushed out and went to the public restroom (ew!) and relieved myself. After a few minutes, the pain went away and I was able to catch the professor as he was leaving the room to turn my assignment in.

Now the problem is, this happened a few times before, every 9 months or so. What is it and what can I do to prevent it? I doubt it's food poisoning. I searched several health sites but I couldn't figure it out from these symptoms. Any clue as to what it is?

Have you thought about seeing a Dr? Sounds serious enough to be well worth a visit.

Sounds like the sort of thing you should ask a doctor, not us...or at least a med student.

It's been a while since we've had a "I might be dying, but I'll ask ATOT first before seeking medical advice" thread.

Glad to see we're still needed ;)

*OP, I said "dying" in jest, I hope you're okay, didn't mean anything by it.

I went to one but she wanted a stool sample which I couldn't provide since I dropped it in a public toilet and the condition by that time was gone. I didn't feel the doctor had anything to solve by then. But maybe I should on the grounds of its recurrence.

Well, just because you aren't showing the symptoms doesn't mean that what is causing them isn't still there.

Go back to the doctor, poo in a cup, whatever they want you to do.... they MIGHT give you an enema or two.

Sounds like gallstones actually. Not sure, but it would fit. The gall bladder empties into the stomach, and that might explain the pains.

But I have no medical training whatsoever. Just a guess.

you've been implanted by aliens...what nobody is telling you is that when you're passed out a HUGE satelite dish unfolds out of your arse and communicates to the aliens. Lots of info to upload to the mothership...

No there wasn't a lot there and I didn't eat that much. But yeah if I was holding it in, then explaining it would be as easy as that.

You should still go back to a Doctor again.

I'm sure they can do tests to see if there isn't some type of bacterial infection
or virus. It could also be colon related.

hope you get it all fixed up!

If that's the case, then there's not much a probe can get from my behind aside from my daily calorie intake and my food/energy ratio.. I'd want to know too to keep track of my diet :)

from http://www.medicalmoment.org/_...signs/jun03/144113.asp:
Symptoms of gallstones are often called a gallstone ?attack? because they occur suddenly. A typical attack can cause:
Yes - Steady pain in the upper abdomen that increases rapidly and lasts from 30 minutes to several hours
No - Pain in the back between the shoulder blades
No - Pain under the right shoulder
No - Nausea or vomiting

Gallstone attacks often follow fatty meals, and they may occur during the night. Other gallstone symptoms include:
? - Abdominal bloating
No - Recurring intolerance of fatty foods
? - Colic
No - Belching
No - Gas
No - Indigestion

People who also have the above and any of following symptoms should see a doctor right away:
Yes - Sweating
Yes - Chills
No - Low-grade fever
No - Yellowish color of the skin or whites of the eyes
? - Clay-colored stools

Conclusion: I dunno..

To clarify some stuff:

Abdominal bloating is if your abdomen -- your gut, basically -- swells or feels like it's swollen, inside or out. Kinda like someone put a baloon inside you and inflated too much.

Colic is (I think) when you have horrid, horrid gas, the kind that hurts for hours. Babies who have it cry a lot. Not so much with adults.

Clay-colored stools... I'm assuming clay is kinda light gray, maybe a little brown in it. Basically if you go "my poo is what f%$#ing color!?!" count yourself in on this one.

I think you may have a gall bladder problem. It wouldn't hurt to get it checked out. It may not be stones; my father, for example, has an underactive gall bladder which causes him some pain every so often.

Thanks for the info, yukichigai

As I recall though, Abdominal bloating is a no, Colic is a no, and the stool is normal color, maybe slightly yellowish. I'll get it checked to see if it's the gall bladder, but after tomorrow's health economics midterm. At least it probably won't happen THEN. whew. Wait ~9 more months (I graduate in 5 :) ).

The yellow color sounds like something the gall bladder secretes, but again, just a guess.

Good luck on the midterm. And get this checked out sooner rather than later. Trust me, if gallstones get too bad you'll be in a lot of trouble.

Or it could be your appendix... :p
