It's not that hot because it's not 1080p. Second Act occasionally has the Aquos 46" 1080p (refurb) for ~$1400 or so plus shipping. I haven't been able to muster up the gonads to spring for one, though, because it's just not that easy to return through the mail.

If you're going to get a 46" unit, consider the Vizio 47" 1080p from CostCo. It's currently $1599. There have been some inconsistent manufacturing issues with these units though. I have one and it will probably get exchanged due to posterization issues on the analog tuner. Otherwise, high-def is very nice on these.

Yeah, its not as hot as the 32" sharp deal that ended yesterday (for 650+stuff). However, one should definitely think about Costco's warranty (90 day return and 2yr extended warranty after manufacturer's = 3yrs min.). Additionally, the quality of Sharp Aquos is worth a 100 or couple more over Vizio, Olevia, and Westinghouse.

If your viewing distance is over at least 6 ft (or maybe 5.5), then you wont notice the 1080p/1080i difference.

The Aquos is a nice set. I have the 32" version of this that I bought last July for $1499. Even though I had a problem with it (vertical line through picture after several months), I would still recommend it. Support was pretty easy to deal with, and they are sending me a brand new model (not refurb! - in shipping right now). Only wish they would have let me pay the difference to trade up to a larger set. Now I'll have a brand new set that I don't really want, but it's nice of them to give something brand new!

When I first saw this deal, I couldn't believe it myself. I got the Vizio 1080p just 6 months prior for $1650 and now Sharp releases one for $1500.

Then I saw the native resolution and decided my original purchase was still better.

i was at costco like 3-4 months ago and they actually put the 47" down to $1449 for about a week.

I dunno, how much better is 720P Vs 1080P? Noticeable? I mean can you really see it in detail like night and day? I dunno, I head the difference was not that much better. But maybe that was the 1080I vs. 720P? Dunno, hard to keep up with all this tech stuff. Then again, I second that sharp makes one of the better units.

Also, if you not happy with your purchase, you return it to costco you don't ship it back. Costco will refund your money + Shipping charges. Where can you get that kinda of service?

Some people say that if you sit ~6 feet or more away from the screen you can't tell the difference. And some people will promptly thump them over the head with a Louisville Slugger for being stupid enough to think that.

So I think it comes down to your own eye and what you can see. If you're on the fence, go to a higher end electronics store and see if there are demo's set up. First coming to mind would be a Sony Style store....
