Both eBates and FatCash offer 2% @ Buy.com, which would total 47.99 extra back for a final price of 2152.00 (providing you're lucky enough to live in a state where Buy.com doesn't charge tax)

This set has no built-in HD tuner (which are exclusive to the GD4U and GD6U models), but the CableCard slot is limited anyway insofar as you can't use any digital cable services like the program guide or whatnot ("yet," the developers say). But seriously, what's the stigma in having a set-top when you have a 32" LCD for 2199.99AR (possibly, see next message). The only difference between this TV and the GD models is the speakers on this set are not removable.

The GD4U model is 2949.99, 2749.99AR, and 2690.99 AR and eBates. Quite a premium to pay for a built-in tuner that your cable or satellite company gives you as part of your plan, and also quite a lot to get a set with removable speakers.

The only drawback here is that buying from buy.com leaves you twisting in the wind a bit when the 12m/12m warranty expires, and if you're stepping up from a CRT, LCDs can be more problematic if you treat them like CRTs and put unnecessary wear and tear on them.

EDIT 1/20/05: There is now a 10% off coupon in all stores at buy.com circulating around. This television is out of stock, but the coupon is valid until *MARCH 15*, and the rebate until Feb. 28!

Just for those of you who aren't math-inclined:

2399.99 - 239.99 (coupon) = 2160 - 43.20 (2% eBates) = 2116.80 - 200MIR = 1916.80!

I called the number on the rebate form and after checking with her supervisor, the CSR came back and said that Buy.com is an authorized retailer and thus making the rebate valid.

They might not be an authorized retailer, rock. But I suppose if they're listing the rebate, then it SHOULD be valid.

EDIT: Check the SHIPPING from B&H. *shudder*
