for the price this seems like a great deal for the bedroom. this is a nice starter tv, and in fact very comparable to my sharp purchased in 2007. the downfalls is that it is not 120hz and does not support 5:5 pulldown, meaning that there is no real cinema 24p mode (or whatever sharp calls it). it will be done in 3:2 meaning there will still be some judder (or is it jitter?).

the picture is still going to look great, and if this will be your first hdtv then you will be impressed. chances are if you are asking if it's a good tv or have good specs, then i'm sure this will do the job for you. any hdtv is a huge step up from old crt.

i just noticed you said monitor.. well tv's aren't meant to be monitors, they're way brighter and won't be so comfortable sitting that close to it for long periods. just keep your distance and it should be fine. you can hook up either dsub or hdmi.
