Sharp - 17" LCD MONITOR W/ SPKRS $200

This was posted on Tech bargains and later here a couple days ago. What concerns me is that Buy.com has no mention of the rebate. Its on the Sharp site, so sounds like its fine.

Yipes, the other thread on this monitor says that Sharp won't honor rebate because buy.com isn't an authorized dealer.

If you have any problem with sharp products you have one remedy and this is to fix it your self or throw away. Been there done that, believe me they will not honor a warranty! Once you buy you better hope you got lucky. I learned the hard way with a $369.00 microwave in the trash and still under warranty!

Anyone get the rebate to work? Its a good screen. I think its the same AU Optronics LCD panel used in the other 17" 16ms LCD's you see out there. At $300 it's not a bad deal but nothing special. If they honor the rebate then its a very good deal. Persoanlly I hate rebates unless from Dell. 7 reabtes with no problems from dell. Other people have screwed me left and right.

FW has a thread about this in thier hot deals forum. Supposedly several people have talked to CSR's at sharp and have been told the rebate will not be honored unless it is purchased at a RETAIL store.

That's too bad, my dad has the same monitor and it's very nice. Very compact - you won't believe how little space it takes on the table, very nice colors, response time and unlike most of the cheap monitors it looks good on the table.

Here is what's on the rebate form

OFFER APPLIES ONLY TO MODELS LISTED: Offer is available only to retail
purchases
of a SHARP® LCD Monitor and cannot be combined with any other
rebate offer. Refurbished units are not included. SHARP® distributors and
dealers may not participate in this offer, nor may any clubs, groups or organizations.

dated between December 1, 2004 and December 31, 2004. Please allow 6-8
weeks for receipt of rebate check. Only one claim per purchase. Requests for
cash rebate must be postmarked on or before January 30, 2005. Offer subject

Buy.com is a retailer...I don't see how this wouldn't qualify. They are not considered a distributor.
I agree. If Sharp is denying rebates on that basis, it's BS! Deal is hot if rebate honored.

The link to the Sharp rebate in OP's post specifically states that "online only e-tailers" are excluded from this rebate offer. I think that is very plainly stated that a buy from BuyCom will not fly.

I received my $80 rebate for a Sharp 17 LCD TV I bought from Compgeeks. It came within the 8-12 weeks which amazed me. But I think Compgeeks has a B&M store somewhere.
