Whadaya say JayPatel?
Site has never been the same since it was sold. That's a shame as two sources are needed to double check.

If it's true, we'll be loosing valuable fodder for our jokes. Does anyone remember when they started doing those homo-erotic poses next to the hardware they reviewed? Caressing Athlons and fondling Voodoos, oh my!

Popular news bureau Reuters even picked up the story:

<< REUTERS: LIVERPOOL, UK, October 26, 2000 - SharkeyExtreme.com, a popular Internet website catering to the computer hardware enthusiast, has implemented a stunning new series of image reforms aimed at attracting the fringe elements of the community. Initially visible in its Super High End Video Card Shootout, the new makeover will make prominent use of digital photographs that dipict the website staff in what have politely been termed, "compromising positions".

"The computer enthuisiast community is replete with those who hold favorable attitudes to alternative lifestyles," explained Alex Ross, editor and headmaster of SharkeyExtreme.com. "We would be crazy not to tap into that."

It appears to be working: in the last day alone, traffic to the site has jumped dramatically, an almost 33% increase from an estimated 21,000 hits a day to a much more flamboyant 29,000. PrideUK, an organization dedicated to the endorsement of alternative business endeavors, moved quickly to bestoy its Rainbow Seal upon the site, making SharkeyExtreme.com the only politically correct computer hardware resource on the Internet.

And there are unconfirmed reports that SharkeyExtreme.com is, at this moment, in detailed contract negotiations to aquire the public relations services of universally loved American workout guru, Richard Simmons. Mr. Simmons' publicist would not confirm or deny any report of contract talks, but paporatzi caught up with him in a trendy London night club earlier this week. The sincere, gnomish man was breathless at a loss for words.

"Oh my God! I would love to be spokesman for SharkeyExtreme! I think their new direction is so much more attractive! It's so hip and fresh. . . it almost makes we want to dance! Come on, let's let's dance right now! And, I mean, the Internet and computer hardware, it's all so magical!"

Reaction to the overhaul has been mixed. The emminently qualified Dr. Thomas Pabst of TomsHardware.com, historically the largest Internet website devoted to computer hardware, clutched his PhD (in sports medicine) and remarked: "Really the problem is the American business culture. In Europe, especially Germany, businessmen are free to relax and have a drink. Americans are altogether too stuck up. Pardon? Sharky is British? Ah, I see. . ."

The new style comes amidst accusations of bias and corruption against the site. Certain reviews have been seen as pandering to chip giant Intel, and many articles appear needlessly stretched out over multiple pages to generate increased ad revenue.

It remains to be seen how the change will affect the computer enthusiast community as a whole. The highly respected Anand Lal Shimpi, often cited as the objective, rational center of this diverese online community, pleaded: "Alex is my buddy. I've known him for a long time. He's a great person and a great guy to run a computer hardware website. I don't know about this new image, but I know it's the same old Sharky behind it, and I love him. Can't we all just get along? Take care," he paused quisically. "Wait, I don't love him, what I meant was I -- well, not that there's anything wrong with that, but, uh -- is this on record?">>
