YEAH BOI!!! Starts NOW!

Damn, these creatures are very majestic. I just hope I never encounter one in their natural environment. D:

I went on my fishing trip over the weekend and we saw a few hammerhead sharks circling the boat. One was over 5' long. They are amazing to see in the wild.

pfft i snorkeled with a 6ft shark when i was in the keys :p

but yeah, the only hammerhead i've ever seen was in captivity at the atlantis in the bahamas, and that thing was really awesome looking.

Yeah, they're amazing to see in the wild, if you're on a boat!

I still remembered the first time I saw a fin in the water, and that was in Florida off St. Augustine. Turns out it was a dolphin's fin, but let me tell you how scared you'd be when sitting on a surfboard and a seemingly dark and large shadow with a fin swims near you.

I think I peed a little...

Nowadays, I'm more adept at identifying dolphin fins, and I love to see them playing in the surf near me. I know for sure there would be no sharks nearby if there are dolphins.

three of us went out right after Jaws came out into Tampa Bay in a three man raft and we had a really big ass bull shark buzz us.

I was really into sharks at the time my little brother was joking around at the time till he finally saw the damned thing then he started to row like a mofo too.

Had to be at least 12 feet.

Even everyone there later were laughing and said it must have been a dolphin until there were reports in the paper the next day of many sharks in Tampa Bay buzzing people that day.

I know what it was, I'm glad he didn't take a bite, he would have had a big dinner in that inflatable and bull sharks are notoriously nasty.

been watching sharkfest on nat geo wild tonight (cause i watch monster fish every week) and the shows tonight aren't the bs drama shows or anything.

EDIT:

this monster hammerhead show on right now on discovery is pretty damn awesome. the camera work is really good, the slow mo HD underwater shots look really good.

Be sure to read the link quoting the scientists interviewed for that Scyfy show in Darkswordsman17 post. You can look at the pretty pictures, but, listening to what they say will make you stupid.

the sharks of the abyss show last night was pretty damn cool.

this zombie shark that is on right now is really neat too. i have always known that sharks are in parallysis when flipped up side down, i just don't know why. i missed the beginning of this ep so i hope they explain it.

on another note, the company that is doing this show (stuarts cove) is the company i took on my snorkel trip in bahamas to see sharks!

Shark week has been terrible for many years now. Enjoy your fake sciencetainment shows.

i just finished watching the "birth of jaws" episode. was kind of cool/sad to see paul walker in the episode. i know he was heavy into shark preservation before and had seen him on the series with that other guy where they tagged white sharks the entire season. sad that he never got to see his work all the way through :(

If Discovery channel and those other channels still had a lot of *real* science shows on them, I'd probably still subscribe to cable. (Dish or Directv) But, with crap like these shows, ghost shows, etc., it was very easy to cut the cord.

That one dude that was on his surfboard swimming alongside a fake turtle had a lot of faith in his fake turtle, that's just straight up cray cray. I'd probably never do that in a 909,987 years.

We've taken several cruises which visit Bahamas but the timing is never right for Stuarts Cove. The ship always arrives too late or leaves too early.

After reading these reviews we eally really wanted to go. Maybe one day we'll find the right cruise or just do a land vacation in Bahamas.

OK, so the episode with that one "scientist" that got his calf bit off, I have no sympathy for him.

"Let's stand in this water full of teeth attached to sharks and dump some chumps in it for good measure, what could possibly go wrong?"

yeah when we stayed at the atlantis i did research and went with them because they had a snorkel spot that you see sharks. i'd say like 1/2 the boat went in the water there and it was not like a normal snorkel spot. they made us all wear life vests and you had to hold onto a rope that went out the back of the boat. and then they put a bait box down about 20-30 feet and attracted A LOT of sharks. i'd say the biggest were probably 6-8 ft, but there were a lot like 20+. the guide swam down and took pics with my camera and stuff but they wouldn't let us swim down (and i would have).

then after that and we were back in the boat, they brought the bait box up top right on the surface and a bunch of sharks were breaking the water.

here are some vids, not the best quality.

they should move shark week to sci-fi at this rate.

you obviously watched nothing on discovery during sharkweek (or cherry picked the "fake" shows") just like about 75% of the people posting in this thread.
