This information is so valauable for me.
So 'nweaver' will you guide me that what flavour of linux i must use for mythtv and whether i have to use multiple tv tuners for multiple channles with mythtv...? I think for each tuner i would have to use separate computer, becuase audio of only one channel could go out at one time, so i can't use multiple tv tuners in one computer.
Dear 'Goosemaster' What do you say on it...?
The sound with modern PCI TV Cards is digitized and sent over the pc bus to the app that made the call.....ie, you can have 6 recordings going on at the same time...audio and everything
🙂
My friend records HDTV and regular TV simultaneously if you can believe that
😀 (using BeyondTV)
As for using MythTV, i honestly would not dare recommend it to someone like yourself. It is really high-level stuff and requires a weekend for even an avid user to fine tune..
That said, there is an exception:
knoppmyth is a 'live' distribution of the popular knoppix distribution of linux. By 'live' it means that you simply but in the CD and can actually run everything in RAM. Even cooler is that it will give you option of isntalling it on a PC ready to go
😀 This is very nice and you would definitely be able to get it to work
😀 To use it thought wou will need a PC that will ahve to be completely erased ("formatted") so make sure you are using a spare pc with nothing on it. Keep in mind that we are not talking windowx XP here. It is a compeltely different enviroment so if anything goes wrong, be prepared to spend a long time agaonizing over internet linux forums.
Don't get me wrong, linux is an excellent OS and mythtv and the knoppmyth derivative are stellar, but they require experience
🙂
As for sticking with windows, I can HIGHLY recommend BeyondTV by snapstream media (snapstream.com)
I have used them for years and am thrilled at their latest release (version 4). YOu have to pay for it, but it runs on windows XP, and has built in transcoding (it will automatically compress files into more managable formats such as DivX, wma, and others.
In addition, it allows you to share your TV signal and your recordings with every pc in the house
😀
oh, and on the internet too
😀
<--used to watch both LiveTV and recordings on the computers in the cafeteria on campus during lunch
😀
