Sharing issues ACCESS DENIED!

I often times hook up people's computers to my network (standard link sys router with 4 port switch) and to back lots of files up, I send stuff over the network to my computer. However, even when I share the folders and give full access sometimes it says ACCESS DENIED. So frustrating. I'm sure this is a simple thing, and I'm probably an idiot. Anyway, most of the time it's windows xp on windows xp. Mixed and matched versions of it. I use XP professional on my machine. I dont think it's a hardware issue, I just think I suck at windows networking.

Any ideas?
