sharing files between XP Pro OS's

This sounds so simple but I can't get it to work for some reason. I am trying to share a folder between to XP Pro boxes on my network, on the same workgroup, etc. I have it setup enough so that the other user can see my folder but they don't have the privileges to access that folder. Now my question is this. It seems like in the Windows ACL the only users that you can add to the ACL are users who you've created an account for on your own computer. But what if I want to share my folder with anybody on my computer, and not necessarily give them access to my physical computer. Is that not possible with XP Pro and ro a domain controller? Do I have to add that user in to my computer for me to be able to share my files with them over a network?

Right now i have everyone checked on my ACL and it still doesn't work.

Do you have Simple File Sharing turned on? If not then its possible that the file/folder permissions don't match the share permission. I would start by telling you to go turn on the guest account as this illeviates a lot of headaches when doing file sharing and making sure you add guest user to the share and folder permissions..

I don't have simple share on, I want to have a little more control. but just as a fundamental question. Can I share files with a particular user who I haven't created an account for on my actual computer. Meaning if I want to share it with user A, but user A has no profile on my computer, is that possible? And if so, how?

I'm not an expert on this sort of thing, but I would think not, unless you create a 'guest' account or the like. Otherwise, the system has no way to authenticate the access.

The other option would be to just disable security entirely on that folder, so you don't need a username/password to access it.
