Hello,

my g/f's father has FastDirect DSL and I have been trying to share his connection. Here are the following steps I have taken and what items I have used. Any help would be appreciated.

SMC Barricade Wireless Router SMC 7004AWBR
Two Nics.
Cat 5 cable hardwired from each computer to the router.

here is a diagram:

PC#1 ----- Router ------ PC#2

1. I have hooked the DSL modem into the WAN port on the SMC router
2. Set all necessary IPS that were given to me on a sheet of paper.
3. Changed all necessary settings within the WAN settings of the SMC Router.
4. I get a Page not found whenever I try to look up a website on the internet
5. WHen I unplug the ROuter from the PC1 and plug the cat5 from the nic into the DSL modem and change teh IP settings all is well.

I am thinking that either I am not using the right cables or there is something wrong with the settings within the router.

If anyone has any experience with this please let me know as I am trying to figure this out.

THanks
Phil

are the pc's set to receive dynamic ip??? is the router doing DHCP? if so set your nics to dynamic IP.
what os's are you running on?

if your router is wireless..... then why are you running cable to it?

Has PC2 ever been able to access the internet by being directly plugged into the modem?

I think your problem is that the MAC address of PC1 is registered with the ISP and only that MAC address can get online. Try cloning the mac address of PC1 into the router and see if that fixes your problems.

Like Minendo mentioned, that is your first step (cloning the MAC address of the original connected pc into the router), then if you are assigning IP (static IP) then disable dhcp on the router, otherwise set auto to get IP from router, and remember that you need to input the gateway IP and the DNS IP that is coming from your ISP provider to each PC.

I hope that this will help you setting up your network.

I just want to thank you guys for helping me out. Worked like a charm. I did have to enable DHCP on the router to make it work. But it works like a charm :)

THanks buddies
