Shared video memory in vista

I have windows vista ultimate billgates edition installed and i noticed when i checked my video card settings i had an extra 768 megs of video memory that is shared from my system memory. I now have 1.25 gigs of video memory. Is there anyway to turn that feature off or atleast make it a lower value?

Why would you want to do that? It isnt actually absorbing 768mb of your memory for exclusive use to your video card.

No not 768 Megs, I dotn think any game out there maybe besides oblivion that is DX9 that would use 1.25 Gigs of video memory. I would like to lower it down to like 256 maybe and set it at 768. Because an extra 768 megs on my memory is being wasted constantly when I dont game as much as I used to so its not worth putting all that extra memory into the video card when It could be put into the actual operating system and make things work faster.

As far as i can tell you can not do anything about these feature. And also as far as i can tell i agree with Matthias99 it doesn't use the RAM unless you need it.

This is not true. It will only use the memory if it actually needs it. Leave it alone.

Exactly.
More... This is part of why DX10 might never be on XP. Vista is now virtualizing video memory too. In XP, First in wins (any/all video memory). In Vista, you can bring up 2-3 or more graphics memory pigs and minimize them. You can task switch between them because Vista will move stuff out of memory on the graphics card to main memory to make room for other apps. If need be, Vista will even store graphics memory to disk as needed to make room (aka the pagefile). Virtual Memory where and when it is needed for graphics memory.
