Shared internet iMac & PC?

I have 2 PC's, running Win 2000 prof with a shared internet connection via a cable modem.
I use Winroute on PC1, and I use an 8 port hub.
Since a week I have a roommate who owns an Apple iMac. I want to connect this computer to the network that I already have, so that he also can share the internet connection via PC1.
But whatever I try, PC1 doesn't detect the iMac. I'm a complete iMac nitwit and my roommate a networking nitwit, 🙂 so we realy have no idea what to do to get this configuration running.
Can anyone tell me what to do?
 
NOTE: Tryin to do this from memory, don't have a Mac in front of me, and terminology changes from OS version to OS version a lot. hope this isn't too far off

* In the Appletalk Control Panel, set the network type to "Built-in Ethernet."
* In the TCP/IP control panel, set the addressing method to "DHCP"
You may also need to manually enter the DNS server addresses (Macs don't always receive DNS values from some DHCP services)
* Plug the Mac into the hub.
* Reboot.

When the Mac comes back up, see if it has received an IP address that matches what your DHCP server is sending out.
You may also need to set your Internet applications to use a LAN-based Internet connection (especially if this Mac was ever using a dial-up modem).
