That's right, single violations of sharing copyrighted material online may soon be a federal felony offense. Mind you, that's not a white collar resort prison, it's federal pound you in the ass prison.

Edit: Another story on this at Wired.

Actually unfair prison terms resulting from bills sponsored by bought and paid for lapdogs like Berman would resut in greater public debate regarding this issue in which I believe the tide of public opinion would by a large margin be against these Busiess cartels and their outdate mode of distribution and their pathetic attempts to cling to them, resulting in the loss of personal freedoms for otherwise law abiding citizens.

There isn't enough money to adequiting house violent felons, I seriously doubt that they woud waste prison space on some dweeb or music fan because they shared or downloaded a copyrighted MP3. It's all for show and to scare those who are afraid of their own shadow.

This is kind of a repost from the end of this thread, but I don't blame you, since it's not on the front page.

I don't see this happening anytime soon. They will not be throwing the entire group of college age students in federal pound me in the ass prison. The first time a rich white kid got caught there would be an uproar and the law would be sh!t on by every white politician with a son in college.

I'm pretty sure this won't pass, if it does it will be meaningless, and it will be possible to challenge in court as well. Just let private industry sort this whole mp3 mess out, not the govt.

Although something probably does need to be done for the companies and artists to not get consistently screwed over.

uploading files and filming movies to be a federal offense? wow that is pretty damn harsh. it would suck that 40 years from now your grandkids ask you why you cant vote and you tell them because you shared a music file...
