It was pretty good the first couple times..

But after like....5+ times...it just gets annoying.

Same with that Korean movie...My Sassy Girl. Good the first couple times...then just gets really long and boring the more you watch it.

*Gasp* how can you say that about My Sassy Girl? I can easily watch it again... and again.

The dubbed version sounds utterly horrible in English..

Go learn a bit of Cantonese and watch the movie! 😀

stephen chow rulez! I have the Shaolin Soccer offical DVD, subtitles or not I can understand since I'm Cantonese... he does so many parodies of famous american movies...

One of my favorite Steven Chow movies is the one where he's like a 007 type of character, with a BUTCHER KNIFE! (That scientist is great... "I have a special SOLAR POWERED FLASHLIGHT"... and his ultra powerful weapon that consists of like 37 different parts like a bunchof knives, grenade, guns, all tied up with string.... and who can forget the STARE-DOWN chair!)...

omg I remember watching that movie when I was a kid and I also liked him in god of gamblers (or was it saint of gamblers?)

Saint of Gamblers, then he also did God of Gamblers II with Andy Lau.

The Butcher Knife movie was From Beijing with Love.

Is "Saint of Gamblers"="All for the Winner" or are they two different movies? I remember watching "All for the Winner" w/Stephen Chow and Ng Man Tat in the early 1990s.

Anyway, I have DVDs of both Shaolin Soccer and God of Cookery, and I liked God of Cookery better. I thought God of Cookery was funnier, but what would I know? My Cantonese isn't all that great...😱

why would you watch my sassy girl over and over again? i don't think it was that great of a korean movie (i'm korean). there are so many other dramas/movies that are better than my sassy girl. i don't know why so many people rave about it. 😕

In theaters August 15th. I just saw most of it at a friends house last weekend and thought it was friggin' hysterical. Good stuff.

http://www.apple.com/trailers/miramax/shaolin_soccer/

Wow it's just coming out now? I could've sworn I saw trailers for it like a year or two ago.

Well, I guess the official US release is next month. My buddy got the subtitled DVD in chinatown and I'm sure it's available elsewhere. I wouldn't mind seeing it at the theater though.

just see it on msn about movie next weeks and see Sept 5 is the release date. Don't think it will show locally.

Looks like Miramax has pushed it back to a 4th Quarter 2003 release

Link

plus, Miramax will release the version w/ original dialogue instead of dubbed.

For SS, I enjoy the the pure love between Stephen Chow and that 'ugly' girl(Zhao Wei) in the movie. She is ugly in her look but I think she is much prettier as a person than most girls. She loved him in a way that is seldom seen nowadays and her willingness to wait and to sacrifice for him were pretty touching if you ever appreciate a girl's feeling. I think some of Stephen Chow recent works features the feeling he want to convey. One of his previous movie told us he was an actor, and later the movie about chef told us that he was making effort to do better. Now this one he told us that he had his own preception of Gungfu, well in a funny way too.
???? Are you serious.

No offence, but I thought those scenes were the ultimate in cheesiness - and done that way on purpose. In fact, this movie basically makes fun of everything, and that's why I like it so much.

yea, it was cheesy, and no explanation for her sudden clear skin😛

but yea, she's hot🙂

man.. those mustaches soccer girls were hot.. *droooooool*

I think one of them plays the "ugly" girl in alot of movies including God of Cookery and the other was a lead in The Legend of Zu.

They are Cecilia Cheung - lead actor in The Legend of Zu and Karen Mok, both are very pretty.

Never saw it, but just ordered the original w/subtitles. It better be worth it!
Awesome movie. The best was the VCD though, since it leaves in the Michael Jackson dance scene - deleted on the DVD I got. :disgust:

I got that movie😀 It rocked hard. Was so dam funny. Especially his run that reveres after each shot wtf?! lol. The woman kept on shooting herself in the arms 😀. The toilet seat that was a tv screen....the list goes on.....

SS was alright. Didin't think too highly of it though.
