Koon's Chevrloet is the biggest Chevrolet dealership in Northern Virginia. I had my car in for warrenty work from my Prizm (they didnt fix the problem).

I got a call today saying it's time for my 3000 oil change. she said she has a 2pm slot open tommorow and asked if i would like to come during that time. (this was said in one breath even before i could get a word in.) I was about to say no since since i usually get my oil changes at walmart for $12 including filter. (I took my Sentra there and it lasted 200k miles.)

Anyway, i asked how much the oil change would cost, and she said that item doesnt have a price listed. but she could get a service technician to call me back.

WTF?? pushy rep for a product w/no price?! i hung up w/a bad taste in my mouth. And i feel sorry for those suckers who say yes for the service.

Moral of the story: Big doesnt mean better (except Walmart)

1) I hate Saturns. Not the cars, the dealerships. I don't want to pay the same as everyone else, I want to pay less!

2) I hate high-pressure dealers. If I walk onto a car lot and the first words out of the slimball's mouth is: "What can I do to get you into a new car, today?" I just leave.

I've seen too many horror stories involving Wal-Mart to trust my car there but that is my opinion.

The dealership must put up with union work rules and wages. That is very expensive and requires marketing to support.

That is not shady.

Dealerships don't have Unions for the Most part. The people that build the cars are UAW, thats a Union.

Also GM has a pricing plan on its oil chages. BUT the dealership can add little things like shop supplies etc.. to beef the bill up.

Also the first oil change should be free, maybe that is why you got the call.

Thanks for the "heads up" on Koons. Since I'm also a Northern Virginian, I'll take note on their service practices - if I ever purchase another GM vehicle. But, you'll see all kinds of people who perform their duties in this manner - a half-assed manner. Frequently, I encounter many individuals at Staples, Office Depot, K-Mart, Best Buy, CompUSA, Circuit City and dozens of other retailers that don't know jack about their work that they're there to perform. Frequently, they don't know the answers to many of my questions and often have to take 10 or 15 minutes to look something up on-line for me while I stand waiting. For this reason alone, I don't expect much anymore from any company because the service just isn't there when you need it.

Actually, in the past, I've had Wal-Mart perform work on my car such as replacing tires and aligning the front end. I was quite pleased with their service and certainly the mechanic who worked on my vehicle was very professional. I think with each and every service shop - whether it be a dealership or Wal-Mart, you'll have a mix of both good mechanics and bad mechanics. So far, my experience in dealing with Wal-Mart has been much more positive than dealing with my local Dodge dealership when I owned a previous Chrysler product.

Car dealers can't stay in business and be honest at the same time. Keep it puckered at all times.

Actual conversation I had with a Sears employee when looking at buffers.
"Can you tell me if any buffer is significantly better? Is there any real reason to get the 8" over the 6" other than the 8" covers more area?"
"Hmmm" *Strokes his chin and looks over the selection of buffers.
*Thinks for about 3 minutes.
"Well, the 8" buffer is obviously better--it costs more!"

LOL
Sigh.
