The trailer I saw definitely sucked, but the pieces I've read about it are actually interesting, likening the "v1" as more like a classic DnD DM role manipulating and playing the environment and enemies against you through campaigns or scenarios that evidently have very longterm play potential?

That is what I thought of initially as well. The 4 are the adventurers and the 1 is in a 'Dungeon Keeper' type role, with a bit of RTS type stuff thrown in.

Not particularly interested in that kind of game though.

Most likely, I'll pass. Bioware is EA corporate through and through, their soul was carved out years ago.

Sounds pretty lame. I wonder how much pressure they are getting from EA to make online games, since that is what's 'hot' right now.

Is it F2P with microtransactions too?

I don't buy Bioware games these days. They let their ego go to their head, have douchey developers, and make mediocre-to-poor games.

I don't like story games to be forced multiplayer. If you can solo it but still need to be connected that's ok, I don't like relying on people to progress the story.

I find it strange that they start advertising that one when lately they've focused on Inquisition's media coverage and reveals. They could have waited until maybe early next year instead. Meh, time will tell. As for me... not sure, don't feel that one, but then again I'm too focused on Inquisition when it comes to BioWare games.

Quick question, why did you timestamp your youtube link to the end of the trailer?

I can't speak for anyone else, but if I'm their target audience then they are missing the mark. Developers need to seriously get away from using generic descriptions such as "Story-Driven Online Action RPG". As a gamer, it tells me that they are simply repackaging all the of the gameplay mechanics I already know about, albeit into a different combination. It is the very definition of derivative.

Bioware is as reputable as they come, but someone needs to tell these guys that it's time to confound expectations, not live up to them. I don't want another online game where everything is balanced just so. I want a game where I can get really OP and shape worlds. I want gratuitous imbalance and greatness in the players favor.

I'm not a big fan of Marvel, but my favorite movie was Punisher with Thomas Jane. Why? Because one should never underestimate the ability of one pissed off guy to rain carnage on an entire organization. We need more John Shepards and Grey Wardens in the world of gaming. Sorry for the rant haha.

Let me see... I'm guessing that throughout the game:

- you'll be building alliances with other factions
- you'll get to meet interesting characters you will care about
- you will face impossible odds and emerge victorious
- you will spend most of the game discovering the true nature of the main enemy
- your team will eventually gather a whole army and attack the main enemy

And...
- the main enemy was in the end misunderstood
- their intentions were misunderstood
- the main enemy is just a pawn of some other entity you will meet just before..
- ...just before the final encounter, where you will need to walk through one of 3 doors: blue, green or red and watch a short clip that is the ending
- you will realize your entire journey was meaningless and the only real choice you have is the color of the door you walk though at the very end

There we go, a new game by Bioware, in a nutshell D:

you forgot you'd be sweet-talking one of your companions and have sex around the 75% of the story mark.

The graphics pretty decent, but I don't think I would play another Bioware game, they don't tend to stick through in my opinion.

The gameplay looks unique, but I would have to pass on this one.

10 years ago this game might have been of interest to me. Now I just think, how am I ever going to get 5 people to all meet up at the same time to play this for more then 10 minutes. If we are lucky we might get one evening a month, and I guarantee that at least one of them won't be paying much attention to the game.
Oh I could play with a PUG. But then again I would have more fun playing L.A. Traffic simulator '08.

I could get people for it, I think the problem I'd run into is one of scaling, like it's seems to be intended for a party of 5 but some nights we might only have 3-4 online and others there might be 6-7. Hopefully it can at least flex down, if not up.

Sounds like what they originally intended Neverwinter Nights to be... except, who cares about what Bioware does anymore?

I'm disappointed. It might still be good, but its not what I hoped for. This looks like every MMO that promises "story focus" and fails (but still makes a ton of money and allows development to cost only 1/3 of what a real RPG would be).

I wanted another franchise similar to Mass Effect and Dragon Age. They are successful enough that they could have pulled of a third. I know its expensive because of customization, voice work, and a ton of options, but people want it and buy those types of games so why not go for another? Seems we don't get more than one of those types of games a year nowadays.

Looks like this isn't the main BioWare guys but rather the guys down in Texas. This is the team down there that isn't working on SWTOR.
