aren't Eizo's T series (AG tube) even more expensive than F series?

Nah, they're about equal, though the F980 is their most expensive model, but they don't really have a comparable AG monitor.
When I picked up my monitor, I had the choice between the T965(AG) and the F931(SM), they were within $50 of eachother.

A quality shadow mask will beat an average AG. A quality AG will beat an average shadow mask.

That said, I like shadow mask monitors better. The lines are straighter, the text is more readable, the colors are more accurate with less bleedthrough, and there aren't ugly horizontal lines (These are just trends, and may not apply to all monitors). I tend to do a lot of 3D work and I really need the lines to be straight, I've never found an AG monitor that can display a perfectly straight line. I guess that is why CAD reviewers almost always give their highest marks to shadow mask monitors. Yes they tend to be a bit darker at default settings, but just jack up the brightness a bit and you are equal again.

Maybe this is just coincidence (it certainly isn't a scientific study), but I thought it was interesting: everyone I know who switched from a CRT to an LCD and liked the LCD had an AG monitor, while my friends and family with shadow mask monitors have never switched to LCD.

 I ended up buying a CTX PR960FL Trinitron for $343.47 including tax and shipping. I love it! Love the 100 HZ refresh rate too.

Shadowmask is better then triniton for the money. I have an awsome Hyundai F910 shadowmask running at 1600x1200 @85hz and I paid $230 shipped. You would need to go in the $300 up range to get similar resolution capabilities in a trinitron. Also the black lines bug me beyond belief.

Any monitor can be flat, just put a flat glass in front of the screen.

Don't forget Goldstar claims that no monitor is truely flat (Diamondtron or Triniton tube is curved and put a flat glass in front of it), except their Flatron is really flat tube.

Damn, it's so funny to stumble on forum threads from 2000s :D

Reading all this I can easily remember myself in the struggle of buying anything new tech related because there is no way of knowing how does it perform at all...
Does anybody remember the old computer magazines?

It's funny how no one mentions aspects like native resolution or dpi with all the talk about trinitrons being harder to read text from.
I was thinking the same thing back then in 90s/00s. 10+ trinitrons later - you find out that they were the best, it only took some time to get the resolution right for text reading.

I remember the jump from 14" 640x480 monitors used with old i386/i486 machines to 19" 1280x960 monitors around win98 era - that were the days. Working in that Photoshop 5.0 and playing Quake / Duke Nukem felt more futuristic than these days foldable phones :D

This was probably my oldest thread recovery.

All in all - get the Trinitron, you won't go wrong.

Lol you registered just to post that. Back in the early 00's I was shopping for a new monitor. I was looking at either the Samsung 755DF or a LG Flatron. I ended up getting the 755DF because it supported 1600x1200 and I was learning graphics on Photoshop 5.0, and I was 19 at the time. I used Powerstrip to overclock the refresh to 69hz as I was getting eyestrain at the default max refresh rate. Miss the CRT days.

Why would anyone even consider getting a CRT display in 2019? I went to Flat Panels back in 2005 and haven't looked back since.
