I think you'll be alright, you're probably just feeling sick because you THINK there was something wrong with it. Beef jerky is safe to eat for a long time after it expires. It is recommended for bomb shelters and such because it lasts so long.

jeebus! Isn't beef jerky good for like 186 years? Was it covered in 6 inches of dust when you pulled it off the rack?

Uh, not only is it beef jerky, it is probably loaded with preservatives.

You'll be fine.

I've had some pretty nasty jerky before.. Literally tasted and smelled like a doggy treat. :disgust:

Aye!

It's already been cured and loaded with salt. You feel grody because you think its bad for you.

The sell-by date is just a sell-by date when by when they have to sell it. Hence sell-by.
It's not an eat-by date. My gf tosses out milk when the sell-by date passes. Drives me nuts - if it doesn't smell, it's still good.

Dried meat packed in salt

I have never seen any expired jerky. All the ones I have seen expired in like 10 years.

That's nothing. I drank a Mtn Dew that's been in my fridge for years. It EXPIRED in November of 2001. :Q

Beef Jerky is cooked and is usually wrapped in plastic to keep air out. As long as it was properly sealed, there should be no problems. But even if it wasn't it's still been properly dried/cooked so it's safe. They just put those "freshness" labels on so stores will have to clean out their inventory and buy new beef jerky from the distributors. It's all a marketing scheme like everything else. ;)
