Blaster forces a reboot on your pc after 60 seconds. Probably not blaster.

BTW run a Housecall online antivirus scan. Oh and the mods prefer virus threads in the software forum.
Good luck.

damn, i have Norton 2003 on for auto protect. wtf Norton?
Before you go raggin on NAV2003... Do you have the latest virus deffinitions? You don't even know for sure if you have a virus in any case, so it seems premature to go blaming your AV software. Have you changed any hardware? Installed new software? Made any significant changes? Getting any errors? There are plenty of other things besides a virus that can cause freezing. Maybe you should start checking into these possabilities before focusing on one thing. Not that I am saying it's not possably a virus, I am just saying check everything. And give us some info so we can help you.

I've been online for 20 years, download files all the time, and never had a virus. I think people are too quick to blame problems on viruses. Certainly an easy out for tech support! (*end of rant*)

Some ideas:

Overheating. A fan may have died in your power supply or cpu cooler.

Bad ram. Sometimes fails and the BIOS ram test misses more than it catches. Go here SimmTester, grab DocMemory, and test your ram. Always a good idea when things go south.

New software? Put any programs on lately? Maybe a conflict (unlikely, I think).

just when your running apps? or spontaneously?

which apps.

if it is a virus you can run Adaware 6 to determine if you have one, just install it then run updates, then scan. its free!

Doubt it's a virus based on what you said. Check control panel to see if you have any yellow exclamations. If not, you may have a serious registry problem or, as someone mentioned, may be overheating. Your PSU might be going bad also. Heck, there are a million things which might cause that sort of behavior. A windows repair install would fix a lot of problems also. I was infected once with a virus (back in my hacker days, fortunately it was on a floppy). I've also received a couple of e-mails with viruses, so they're definitely a consideration. Norton found them 2 of the 3 times (the 3rd was the "Happy Birthday" virus).

If you got XP got to control panel, administrative tools, event viewer check the logs for any errors. It maybe memory going bad or some other hardware. Really doubt its any kind of virus.

Whats the system specs, what kinda system we talkin about here. It might not be a virus after all. But if it is just do a reformat/install and run a better firewall/virus scan next time.

On the errors right click and select properties. It'll give a description of what caused the error. Need to know what application is causing the error.

When you go to event viewer. It has Application, Security, and System. When you click on Application the events show up on the right side. Look under the Type column.
Find any with error then right click on it and select properties. It'll have the source, and event id. Below should be a description.

That makes no sence you have to look up the records and find out what app(s) are causing the errors.

What OS are you using? I'm assuming XP can you post what the errors says? The event id and the source. What changes have you made recently. Undo the changes if the errors showed up after the changes.

sometimes one of the games I play crashes. So if I check the event viewer. An application error shows up and under description it says Faulting application et.exe and some other stuff afterwards.
So I know the error came from enemy territory.

haha i hear ya, I dun know how many people that have had windows 98 instaled for 5 years that think they have a virus, hmm or maybe windows 98 corruption? Oh no it's a virus i swear! whenever something goes wrong blame it on a virus! the most fun kind of viruses these days are trojans becuz u can scare the crap out of people! not that i condone that...........

The blaster worm is a simple virus, or so it was first thought to be one, until they released it with a DoS signal to windows update. The main weakness for shutting down using port 125, has been around since NT4, give me a unpatched IP and i'll reboot ur computer for ya! lmao.

What OS do you even got?
