Excelsior, I have also had the misfortune of having a pilonidal cyst. It was one of the few truly miserable experiences in my life. At it's worst, I couldn't sit down, walk, or sleep on my back. The first time the cyst got infected, I had it drained by a doctor, but I eventually had to have surgery to remove it. The surgery itself was close to painless, and I am glad I had it done. What amazed me was how fast the cyst got infected. For the love of god, do something before it gets infected again. I have had broken limbs that were less painful than the pilonidal cyst.

Some doctors think it's because of an ingrown hair of some sort. Others believe it's the result of some sort of physical trauma to that region, like falling down or something.

ive quoted the best part of that post for reference in this thread.

Well its been two days and I woke up this morning feeling intense pressure in that area. I sat down on the toilet to go to the bathroom, and heard an audible *squirt* and alot of warmth all of a sudden. I turned around and my ass had "popped" and there was blood and puss all over the back of the toilet seat. I looked at my ass in the mirror again and there was blood all over. I squeezed a little and huge dollups of bloody puss kept chunking there way out. I guesstimate it was probably a tablespoon worth of puss cheese when all was said and done. After the initial shock and facination of it bursting, I noticed the smell. OH THE SMELL! Rotting flesh sticks so bad.

I'd rather have one of those than the massive ganglion cyst that I have in my wrist...

Bigger than this?

Not quite, but it's close. It has a huge impact on my gripping capabilities in my hand, and it's also numb a lot of times.

I always thought this was a syndrome reserved for public restrooms:confused:

sqeeze....squirt!

according to this link, you need to start shaving your butt...

How can pilonidal cysts be prevented?

Thoroughly wash between the buttocks when showering.

Consider careful removal of hair from the area by shaving or using chemical hair-removal products. This treatment alone may resolve cases with mild symptoms.

hmmm...

I don't see how shaving would help anything. The hair grows nomatter what, and if it is indeed caused by an ingrown hair... ?

The washing part would make the most sense, since it would exfoliate and help prevent the already-growing hair from becomming ingrown.

It's been my experience that shaving promotes ingrown hairs rather than prevents them....

Thanks..I feel a lot better now.

Today it has only gotten worse. I guess I am just gonna go to the student health center asap tommorow.

Though, I feel like draining it myself, since it is such a nuisance; that would be a bad idea.
