So, I am still mucking around with my 2 week old SGS3 and have noticed some stupidity with any headphone. I primarily use poweramp for music because I love its eq and tone. I installed EQ as I purchased it last year to boost the volume on my asus TF101. I notice that it has no affect on sound. I tried changing the effects setting to EQ but still hear no difference. I downloaded Volume+ and the same thing. I tried in both poweramp and with the stock music player. nada. Is this phone not allowing 3rd party apps to manipulate sound?

Working fine for me (International version). Maybe you have to see if PowerAmp has direct access to sound control

I don't know about the EQ issue, but one thing that's driving me nuts with my SGS3 is whenever I plug into the audio jack it automatically starts up Google Play and starts cranking whatever song. It's really annoying.

How the heck do I turn this off? I haven't found any settings in either the system settings (which I find alarmingly sparse to begin with) or settings in Google Play. Googled all over the place and can't find a thing about it. Anyone know?

Yeah, there's a toggle deep in the settings. Make sure it's on.

AHA! This is it but I had to turn of DVC (direct volume control) OFF (it was already on). Now the other stuff, EQ, Volume+, is working. Thanks!

If you're one to tweak the EQ settings, I found DVC necessary to get decent sound quality. Without it the low end was muddy and clipped easily. You can turn DVC back on and use the preamp if you want.

I'm also not sure why the DVC in Poweramp affected the stock music app. Everything done in EQ and Volume+ should have still made a difference in other apps outside of Poweramp.

Yeah, I always use DVC as it makes a huge difference in quality. After playing with EQ (which works great for my tablet) and Volume+ I decided to forgo those and keep poweramps DVC on as it sounds much better. I can only assume that PAs DVC overrides ICSs settings. Poweramp also doenst resume playing if I have headphones and answer a call. It will pause when I pick up and when I disconnect it will play sound for a split second then no audio is heard. The song still plays as I see it ticking away. I have to stop the song, remove headphones then plug them back in. Sucks but I dont receive many calls during music. On the stock player resume works but the stock players have always sucked which is why I bought poweramp a couple of years ago. Hopefully they will upgrade it soon as it is,IMO, the best player around.

No clue mine does not do that...
mine does nothing (other than lower the volume) when I plug in headphones.

1. Go into settings>application manager>all>google play and hit "disable"
2. Install poweramp/winamp/any better player.
3. Profit.

Thanks. (Already had Poweramp installed.)

It must have been some crappy update, possibly applied by Verizon. There was no disable option, just 'uninstall update', which then returned it to 'factory version'. Then I could disable, which got rid of the problem.

Right on. Disabling apps removes them from the update list too, so you should be good, at least with Play.

That's a weird issue, and definitely isn't default...
