Well stylish and small form factor cases are rolling out from everyone. The Phanteks Evolv Shift is very neat.
But I love the wood on In-Win cases...
Given that case panels don't do anything noticeable (or even measurable) for cooling (in actively cooled cases, at least) how does that matter?i don't see the wood thing taking off very far... plus real wood is an insulator so.... there's that.
Uh, sorry? If case panels helped with cooling, we would need fewer fans in closed cases, not more... The fans are there to get trapped hot air out, not to somehow cool it by passing it along side panels. While one might argue that the difference in thermal conductivity would be more noticeable in a smaller case, the inverse is that the side panels are smaller, thus reducing any potential cooling effect they might have.case panels don't do anything... what? if that's true then I guess we're wasting our time with fans and vents are unnecessary.
if 2 or more of the sides (incl. the top panel) of the case have real wood and not some faux veneer with venting you're certainly gonna notice some trapped heat.
Wow, that was an interesting interpretation of my post. Did you seriously think I was saying "it doesn't matter if your case is entirely enclosed and has no airflow"? Don't be absurd. I was responding to your claims that (solid, non-ventilated) wood panels somehow insulate more than similar panels made of aluminum or steel. After all, your post that I was responding to pointed out wood as a (thermal) insulator, and said nothing of airflow or anything similar.i was referring to your claim that panels don't factor in with retaining heat, but that's fine...
