Otherwise known as Nike gas, the "air" in Air Nikes. I tried to start an internet rumor that the stuff was better than whippets for a good buzz but it never caught on. I was hoping there would be kids out there having to explain to their parents why they punched holes in their $150 sneakers.

This is exactly what happened when we huffed freon (or whatever it was you refilled your car AC with) in the 80s.

So that's what happened to you. ;)

Auto A/C (pre '94 would be dichlorodifluromethane - R12). Freon was the DuPont trademarked name. Freon is a very cool name. :cool:

I've heard of this a lot, but I'm still scared shitless of inhaling a molecule with 6 fluorine atoms on it.

its actually really dangerous because its so dense, it can just sit in your lungs and suffocate you in certain situations. also, as others have said, the S's and F 's scare the hell out of me.

MSDS for SF6 says that it's inert, and doesn't present a health risk besides depriving someone of oxygen - the same as helium might do.

It actually sounds fairly safe.

NFPA Ratings:
Health = 1
Flammability = 0
Reactivity = 0

HMIS Ratings:
Health = 0
Flammability = 0
Reactivity = 0

Sounds quite benign.

Well, if it displaced too much O2...
