The age of consent used to be 14 in the state of Arkansas. It was a running joke with my friends, but I checked and it was correct in the 1990's.

That makes me sound as if I'm a horrible person, but I was really just flabbergasted.

That's not entirely accurate. In PA for example, the age of consent is 16 but an age difference of 4 years or less is ok. So 17 & 13 is kosher.
LOL, I won't even ask why you know that.

Heh. I used to work the midnight shift at a 7-Eleven, and there were cops who would hang out talking to me for hours while waiting for calls (we had a police "substation" in the store where they could fill out and fax paperwork and stuff). One night one of them brought in his Big Book of Pennsylvania Laws? and he was showing me some of the more interesting laws.

These days, I wonder if carding your dates is a good idea. I had a friend meet a girl who said she was 22, he went to Texas, and just as he was about to pull his move he got a knock on the window. She was 17. Now he's a registered sex offender with a ton of other stipulations because they played it like he was using the message board he owned as a way of meeting underaged girls. So that girl, because she wanted to feel adult basically ruined his life.

Sad to say, that's okay to do in this day and age. Play the victim and you're absolved of all blame.

17 is legal in Texas though...

Maybe the girl was really 15, and his friend lied and said she was 17 because it's more believable to mistake a 17 year old for 22 than a 15 year old. :Q
