Wow. HR did what they had to do to cover their asses, but it's still a messed up situation.

You'd think that she'd remember that her husband works at the same friggin' job before crying to HR...

A few years ago, when my wife started working at the bank, I called and asked the receptionist if I could speak to Lisa. Pretty soon she picked up and said, "This is Lisa, may I help you?" I asked, "What are you wearing?" ...nothing but silence... Oops! I asked, "Is this Lisa, Ornery's wife?" Nope, it wasn't! 😱 Fortunately, all the girls just laughed about it the rest of the day.
Ouch! LOL!

Sounds like you would've been burned at the stake nowadays.
That was a really small bank. My wife and her boss doubled as the "HR department", so they didn't have to play these games. That bank was purchased by a much larger corporate outfit, which she hates. They'd probably handle my phone call the way kranky's company did.

Indeed. Each poster who has reflected on this has had a damn good point.

Husband was an idiot. At work they shouldn't be husband and wife, they should be employees, and should behave as such. Sending notes is not appropriate.

indeed.

I don't think he was that dumb for doing it. It says that he left the pet name on the note, so if she wasn't a retard, she would have known who it was from.

I guess all I can say is wow. I'm so glad my own side biz is starting to take off. If this is the way things are going to be (and only get worse as time goes on) then I want to be my own boss.

yeap and when one of your employees comes to you with a Sh complaint and you blow it off YOU will get sued and lose everything.

EVERY SH complaint has to be checked and dealt with. the company was right in what they did.

This women and her husband (my god are they dumb) made a huge mistake. Him for doing that at work and her for not thinking or reading correctly.

What really amazes me is how many ATOT members have no clue on how the business world (management side) really works.

Well, how many of us are managers or even business people? I am an engineer and physicist. As long as I get my paycheck I don't care about the business end of things.

Whether or not it's legally required I still find it incredibly assinine. The world wasn't like this a decade or more ago.

Wow, I just thought of something. Perhaps you are right. Before my side biz becomes my fill time source of employment maybe I'd better start paying attention to how the business world works, like it or not. 🙁

I think if I was the husband I'd at least fight it. True, HR has to do what HR has to do, but for Christ's sakes you'd think they could work something out without affecting future potential lawsuits.

The both of them should get the "Here's your sign" office award. Keep business & personal lives separate! What if that note had accidentally gotten delivered to another person in that building? Try explaining THAT one!

yeap its rather disgusting. which is why i retired. I couldn't handle the BS anymore.

In a Sexual Harassment lawsuit the women can/will sue not only the offender but the company and well anyone else they think they have a chance of winning. take a look at some of the payouts for it. it cost company's millions.

Not to mention SH can be anything from looking down a shirt to a offhand remark. heck i remember hearing about a suit because a guy asked a women out twice.

hate to see how it is in 5-10 years.

If I got a note saying I had a great body and someone wanted to do all sorts of cool things to me I'd be pretty happy about it 🙂

If it was a chick who sent it - !!!
If it was a guy - at least I could probably milk him for some free beer...

🙂

You know, I'm thinking about this PC world we are creating and I just realized that in the 12 years that I've been out and in the civilian professional world that I've never seen a sexual harrassment case filed.

When I first got to AlliedSignal I was a little hesitant to tell jokes and such. I'd stop whenever a female coworker walked in so as not to offend. After a month of this they all cornered me and told me that they were hurt that I treated them differently than the male coworkers and that they liked jokes as much as the guys, and the dirty ones were the best. So I relaxed and all was well. Two of them even wound up coming on to me at the workplace several times. No one filed harrassment suits.

It's been similar everywhere I've worked since. Do these suits get filed frequently in other places? I'm baffled...

And if one of those women decide they no longer want to hear dirty jokes, they can file SH on you without even telling you first to stop with the jokes. It's not frequent, but there are some women out there who see it as a lottery ticket.

In court, the way it goes is:

Woman A: Megatomic told dirty jokes regularly.
Megatomic: You told me it was OK!
Woman A: No, I never said that.
Woman B: I heard him tell those jokes. He did it all the time.
Lawyer to Woman B: Why didn't you object?
Woman B: It didn't bother me. I didn't mind.
Lawyer to Woman A: Why didn't you object?
Woman A: I was afraid I'd lose my job so I never said anything about it. I was intimidated.
Lawyer to male coworker: Did Megatomic tell dirty jokes?
Male coworker: Yes, but they said...
Lawyer: Yes or no, please.
Male coworker: Yes, but...
Lawyer: That's all, thank you.

So you can protest all you want that they said it was OK, but if one of them changes their mind, it won't matter. Even if you had it in writing, it probably wouldn't matter. The woman would just say she was intimidated into writing it. It's a no-win situation.

That's why we are counseled to never do anything that would even suggest a hint of SH, no matter who it is, no matter if you're kidding around, no matter how innocent it may seem. Because with the PC world out of control, you can forget about common sense saving you. The person bringing the SH complaint gets to decide if they were harrassed.

How am I the first to type this in? Are you all afraid of being sued?

:camera: or BAN!!!

Oh, and in case you can't find an opportunity to take a picture of her, at least tell us if she is indeed hot.

You know whats funny is the fact that this was a lose/lose situation for the guy. Lets say he gets out of his meeting and talks to the wife. Now hes like "Yea did the message get you worked up?!" and shes all like "Yea wicked, I am so hot right now, who wrote that?!" And then the husband is like "WHAT KIND OF SICK FREAK GETS WORKED UP OVER ANONYMOUS LETTERS, THE JANITOR COULD HAVE SENT THAT".

You must be in the wrong thread. Did you see "YAGT" in the title?

You know what, everyone is dumb in that story. I'd look for a new place to work. You're obviously surrounded by morons. 😉
It seems that pretty much any company that has HR staff is surrounded by morons. Scratch that, the majority of people everywhere are morons 😛

I hope he gets lots of lovins during that 6 weeks.

Hell yea, just what I was thinkin. That had better be 42 days of waking up to a BJ, followed by pre and post work romps, along with an after dinner quickie, and then a little more before bed.

I don't know the guy to ask him directly (this happened in one of the branch offices), but my guess is that he assumed that she would have realized it was from him. The word on the grapevine is the couple has done similar things via email (occasional "romantic" notes to each other) and he was just going a different route with the same concept.

meh. i think HR was too harsh on him

I have seen it happen on a rare occasion...I have also seen other lighthearted things taken far too seriously, for example one employee made an off hand joking remark that if their boss ever fired them they would kill them with a photon torpedo, the boss caught wind of it from a tattle tale employee and the one who made the remark was fired immediately for threatening the life of the manager....

In another instance two collegaues were out at a bar with some other co workers, one of them made a mother joke about the other, a complaint was filed with the employer later on and the one who made the mother combat boots or whatever joke was fired....

It is really like you have to walk a tightrope where you want to socialize and be yourself, yet you have to always be on the defensive as you never know who will take what too seriously and what will get you fired or suspended....being open and honest in the work place is difficult especially if it is a large diversified company...I work with a smaller group which I can be more open with but even then I have to be on the defensive.

I would hope any wife of mine would:

1) Be smart enough to pick up on the clues, especially considering the history AND
2) Talk to me first before going to HR

While probably not the best thing to be doing at work, the woman is a freaking dumbsh!t.
