This reminds me of De Kooning's "Woman" paintings which undermine the notion of female strength with things like silly little feet. Obviously the intention is quite different, but the bizarre effect is similar.

I see nothing wrong with the first picture in the OP, to be honest, though it's right on the edge of what I find completely acceptible. What I have a problem with are things that are much worse then that.
 
i love ads for game like EQ and WOW. they ahve women with huge swords and wearing tiny little armor. yeah like thats going to be usefull.

True, but the thread post stated "what a dumb ad" which, at least with me, box art is not considered "an ad" though it definitely is a form of advertisement.

That's definitely different then this situation. I don't know if you have handled guns, but as long as you know where the ejecting brass is going to be and avoid being hit by it before it cools down, you are fine, and clothing, even heavy clothing, is not any use against bullets, so armor in this situation would be useless, except bullet resistant vests et al. And jeez, it's just box art. As for MMOs and the like, I have a different view on those.
