Sexiest aircraft

I always liked the old F-4 Phantom

but the sexiest plane HAS to be the one answering your request for air support when the situation is FUBAR!!

Someone said the Corsair. Have you ever seen one up close? Huge snout. Again, not sexy.

ME262? Looks like a lizard with wings.

A10 Warthog? Sure...

For an American design, the P51 is admirable. The damn airscoop is odd-looking, but distinctive. But no.

They sexiest aircraft ever produced has to be the Supermarine Spitfire Mk. IX. You could make arguments for other variants, but I like the Mk. IX. If the lines don't win you over, the Rolls Royce Merline will. I've only seen one fly on two occasions, and they were religious experiences. The second time was in formation with an Avro Lancaster and Hawker Hurricane. Beautiful. >>

maybe the XB-70 valkyrie? the plane that made the russians develop the MiG-25? SR-71 like performance, only huge and with bombs. only one exists now, since a test plane sucked a chase plane into itself. its at wright patterson in dayton.

its amazing how many bombers have come and gone since the B-52 was first designed. the Hustler, the Valkyrie, the Lancer, the Spirit. probably others i don't know about.

looks like an F-4 phantom. but my guess is the G Wild Weasel variant.

I preffer the F117 Nighthawk and the Commanche.

Although the YF-22 is the coolest fighter the Airforce has, the YF-23 is cooler looking. Too bad the AF never bought into it. The AMD k5 of fighters, too little too late.

Yes that is really an amazing plane to see up close! I plan on taking some pics of it when I visit the Wright-Patt museum while I'm on vacation.

The F-23 was stealthier, and had a better performance envelope than the F-22.


But the F-23 was from northrop, who has (as was thought at the time) just been awarded a 300 billion dollar contract to provide the airforce with up to 200 B2 stealth bombers, so the contract went to lockheed martin, more as a corporate welfare type support.

Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your POV), the airforce only ordered 22 B2s, making it not nearly as profitable as Northrop had hoped.
