severe back pain!!!!

before anyone says anything about going to the doctor, im waiting till 8 when the office opens to make an appntment....

so yesterday i was moving a big speaker, not too heavy, but i sorta lost balance and i bent backwards really far. a couple minutes later all of the sudden i started getting a sharp pain in my lower back, since then its been hurting like hell. I havnt even been able to sleep all night. I tried everything i could think of but the pain just wont stop. Anyone have any idea what could be the problem??🙁

Could have *possibly* ruptured or herniated a disk as well. Most likely just a muscle pull though.

A herniated disc. If your back feels as though there is a bump on your lower back, you probably have one. I recommend sleeping on your stomach with a pillow to prop up your chest and arch your back to keep it properly aligned. Also use EXTRA-perfect posture and don't lift anything over 5 pounds if you can help it. A doc will only give you meds or send you to a specialist. I recommend going to a physical therapist. If you talk to your doc and get him/her to send you to a physical therapist you'll only have to do the co-pay thing at the PT and they can do Ultrasound therapy on your back to get more oxygen to the injury so you'll heal faster. Does it sound like I've been through this before?

It's 10 months since my injury and I'm 95% better....

Worst thing is a disk is out but HIGHLY unlikly. You probably just strained a muscle. Back pain sucks! I feel for you I'm having a bad back day today too. 🙁

Alternate every 15 min. with a heating pad and a cold compress a few times a day, take some Aleve (or other naproxen/sodium or something with ibuprofen) to lessen the inflammation, too.

I say don't LISTEN TO ANYONE but the doctor except for minor remedies. U do NOT want to follow bad advice when it comes to your back as the consequences, although many times not irreperable, can last quite abit.

Some future advice which I open up to scrutinany because I would like confirmation....

Maybe when you are better (if you get better) you should workout your back muscles so they aren't as affected because of surfaces.

i dont feel any bump, im hoping its not a disk, but i dont know why i didnt feel any pain till like a couple minutes later when it hit me all of the sudden....

got an appointment at 11 🙁

hurts soooooooo bad

rest it, use a heating pad thats if its a pulled back muscle(which u hope it is, cuz the other possiablties are not good at all)

You wouldn't feel a "bump" if it was a ruptured/bulging disc. If it's really bad the Doc will do a MRI or CAT scan, and it will show up on that.

Unfortunately there isn't much you can do about a back spasm (if that's what it is). Sucks, I know, but don't use heat, because that will only make your back spasm more. Cold is good, Motrin or Aleeve is good. The Doc will know what to do.

Don't stay in bed too long- start walking around after a day or two- hopefully it will go away in a few days.

wud a pulled back muscle hurt this bad though? i couldnt even sleep all night because no position was comfortable

You back is probably spasming because you pulled a muscle. The spasms hurt like h3ll!! I've pulled my back out twice and man...its the most painful thing! The docs gonna tell you to rest it and he'll give you something for pain...then he's gonna tell you to do some exercises for that part of the back..Good luck and I feel for you!

as long as he gives me med for the pain...

I got severe back pain too... but from a car accident last week.

Hopefully you get something to help you with the pain - I don't know what I would do without the meds.

When I fvcked up my back I pulled a muscle that goes from the crack of yo ass to the base of the neck and the doc told me it was standing up about inch off my back look like another spine 😉

Don't rely on just meds to get you through back pain (first-hand experience here...and my ex-wife, too.)

You should go to your doctor and get a referral for a phyiscal therapist or a back pain specialist. And, if the other person was at fault, seek medical payments from the other person's insurance.

Or, seek out a good chiropractor. I went to one for a year or so and it helped but the physical therapist was the most helpful.

I've had good luck with a couple visits to a chiropractor when I had a muscle spasm in my lower back many years ago. I know many people who say it's a bunch of hoey but hey, it worked for me. Make sure you go to one who knows what he's doing though and make sure they x-ray you before they start making 'adjustments'.
