Several year old router on the way out

My moms newspaper office is using an older netgear WGR614 V4, im guessing at about 4 years of age. Lately it seems to lose connectivity randomly. Sometimes its every hour or so, sometimes its every 5 minutes, but the whole office loses all internet and interconnectivity (as far as I can tell)

When this happens I just unplug the router then back in, and we have the connection back in about 20 seconds. Is the router showing its age and needs replaced? maybe some sort of firmware problem? I don't know, my knowledge of routers/networking is pretty limited :\
 
Office productivity losses have assuredly cost way more than the cost of a new router. Unless everybody there works for free, it's not worth the cost of more outages nor the cost of troubleshooting it. Pick a new router with high ratings for reliability.

The ASUS WL-520gU and the Linksys WRT-54GL are typically both available for $60 or less. The ASUS (probably the better router) was on rebate for $20 at Newegg.com, but it's sold out on most sites right now. MWave.com actually has the ASUS in stock for $32 after rebate, plus shipping.
 
Depending on how many PC's are in the office, you may want to look at the Asus WL-500G Premium v2. More expensive but for an office, the better hardware and memory would suffice better.
 
I understand that a replacement will be inexpensive, but I fixed the metal cased, 8 port Netgear at my wife's office by reflashing the firmware. There is no guarantee of course that this would be the fix for hers.

It was acting very flaky. Sorry, but I don't remember the model number, although it doesn't really matter in this case.
 
I doubt that it an age problem.

The WGR614 V4 was great when it was released, and the Air was not loaded with signals. Using it with one or two wired computers, one or two Wireless, while everything is close by and used for simple tasks, it would work well.

In the current noisy (Wireless Signal wise) environment and demanding tasks it can not cut the Mustard any more even if it was "Young".
