I am thinking about getting an SN41G2, but I want to make sure it is a good choice. For one, how futureproof is it? I know it supports the 333Mhz FSB processors, and maybe even 400MHz FSB procs when released. But what about future video cards, Hopefully the GFFX is in a league of its own and no other video cards will have that big a cooler on them. Also how muhc of an advantage with hyperthreading turn out to be over non HT AMD CPUs? Will AMD come out with thier own version of HT or do they have something else up thier sleeve, or do they think they can still kick butt without anything like that? Any other info you can provide would be great. I have read most threads about the SN41G2, but you learn something new every day. I gotta go eat now, be back later to post any other stuff I can.

It should be a pretty good system for a while (1-2 years) if you dump in an 2800+ into it. I don't know about how good HT'ing in P4s are compared to the TBred B. But I assure you that not many hardware nowadays are definite futureproof for over 2 years. The SN41G2 is something of a 'fun' computer, but not a sure pick if you want it for its duration against today's rapidly advancing technology.

I don't really need top of the line performance all the time. I buy stuff and use it as long as it functions well. I am currentlly using an ECS K7S5A, running a Duron 650@866 with 512MB of 2100 crucial and an all in wonder 8500DV. So I obviously don't need 500FPS, or that extra nano second of speed. I am basically wondering if this is as sure a bet as a regular computer. I mean with a regular computer case, i can swap out virtually every part as new ones come out. I think the mini shuttles are more limited, but not sure how limited or what its effects will be.

It might not be a top choice as your primary rig. Since there is only 1 5.25" bay, you have to get a DVD-R/RW or a DVD/CDRW combo drive if you want to do all that sort of stuff (if external drives are not your thing). You can fit 2 HDs in the case, plus more if you go external with the USB 2.0 and 1394. Sound wise the onboard sound may just be good enough if you're not an audio freak. I'm guessing you're on broadband, so modem ain't needed. Now you're free to put in any video card that you can find/afford and you just might have a pretty good rig to show off.
