Are you running the client with the service handler. It has instructions with it for maximizing speed for cpu with heyperthreading which I would figure your XEONs have. Confused puts a link to it in his daily stats threads.

I'll give it a go!! 😀 -- Let you know the results in the a.m.

That should solve the problem...
However, the latest version of SOB (1.10) has the service handler already within it. It should be your c:\program files\SB folder
in a cmd prompt browse there and type sobsvc -i to install it... then look at the readme for the various switches you'll want to turn on.
You'll probably want -s -m -o but there are others you might find useful.

It's a Beowulf cluster we finally got in at work. Unfortunately the wiring for the room it's going in isn't finished yet! :|

Now, now, don't get your hopes up. I doubt that I could get permission to do any long term DC, but it may be possbile to run some "benchmarks". This machine will be getting heavy research use anyway. I was just trying to determine a nice, easy project to try out on this puppy, and wanted to see if SOB had progressed any in this manner. It looks like a bit of work on the linux end to get it to do what I want, so I may end up doing something I know will be easy, like ecc2. My decision will depends on how busy I am after assembling the Beowulf and installing neccessary compilers/debuggers, etc.

I ran the service and found it was actually slower then running the GUI. 🙁

176k instead of 196k.

I ran the service on my XP machine at home and the client would start then stop. The log said error #4.

--LANMAN

LANMAN
Error number4 means that the GUI client has the box checked to: Start on Windows startup.

Uncheck the box, save the config, and then restart the service.

On the thread note, I just recruited a new member: Infinity312....he should be along shortly. 😀😀😀 Crunching on 4 processors. 😀

Does this project "play nice" with others such as SETI? If so, I've got 2 OC'ed XP-1700's crunchin' that might have room for more....

Hey guys, I just wanted to let you all know that I'm running on 9 machines as of last night 11:00 EST... I'm hoping to add some more soon...
