LOS ANGELES ? Seven members of the North American Man/Boy Love Association (search), including two teachers, were arrested in Southern California and charged with allegedly planning to travel to Mexico to have sex with boys, authorities said.

An eighth man was charged with distributing child pornography, said FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller.

Four men were arrested in Los Angeles and three in San Diego Saturday.

They were charged Monday, following a sting operation in which each man allegedly paid hundreds of dollars to an undercover agent to arrange the sex, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (search) said during a news conference Monday.

During the investigation, the FBI set up a fake travel company that offered a trip to Mexico to meet boys for sex, Eimiller said.

The men had allegedly traveled from their homes to Southern California with the expectation of boarding a boat to Ensenada (search), where they were told sex with the boys was awaiting them at a bed-and-breakfast, Eimiller said.

Through the undercover agent, she said, they requested that the boys be as young as 8 years old.

"This investigation exemplifies the FBI's commitment nationwide, and the commitment of our local, state and federal task force partners, to finding child predators within the United States and beyond our borders," Richard Garcia, assistant director in charge of the FBI's Los Angeles office, said in a statement.

Jeff Devore, 53, of Fullerton was arrested Saturday and charged with distributing child pornography as a result of the sting, Eimiller said. Devore, a minister at the Brea Congregational Church (search), in Orange County, was not accused of planning to go on the Mexico trip.

Devore, who is also a chiropractor, first met an undercover FBI agent at a North American Man/Boy Love Association meeting.

The association, which was formed in 1978 and advocates relationships with men and boys, was not charged in the case.

Devore was allowed to post bail but it was immediately unknown whether he had done so. A phone call to the church and a message left on Devore's answering machine seeking comment were not immediately returned.

The seven arrested included: Sam Lindblad, 56, of Albuquerque, N.M.; Gregory Mark Nusca, 43, of Dania Beach, Fla., also known as David R. Busby or Steven West; Steven K. Irvin, 46, of Pittsburgh, a special education teacher at Carrick High School (search); Richard Stutsman, 59, of Seneca, S.C., a substitute teacher for a school district in Oconee County; Phillip Todd Calvin, 43, of Dallas; David Cory Mayer, 49, of Chicago, a flight attendant; and Paul Ernest Zipszer, 39, of Deltona, Fla.

Jesus, I always thought that Nambla was a joke.. thats disgusting..

Uh, not that I have a problem with NAMBLA members being prosecuted, but can you really change people with planning to travel to Mexico to have sex with boys?

If they can charge people for planning murder or planning to sell/buy drugs, yes. If they get caught in a sting operation like these pervs were, it isn't a problem.

The guy from Dallas made the news here yesterday -
What cavities was he looking to fill ?

Dallas Morning News
<CLIP>

A Dallas dentist was arrested Monday in San Diego by FBI agents who say he planned a Mexican vacation to have sex with underage boys.

Phillip Todd Calvin and two other men were arrested after a three-month undercover investigation, said FBI Special Agent Daniel Dzwilewski, who heads the bureau's San Diego office.

"It's bizarre and alarming and tragic," he said. "They were all traveling for the stated purpose of going to Mexico to have sex with minor boys."

Dr. Calvin, 43, was charged with interstate travel to engage in sexual activity with a minor. He was being held in a San Diego jail and could not be reached for comment.

Dr. Calvin, who has two children, runs a dental practice in the 6300 block of LaVista Drive in Old East Dallas. His Web site refers to him as the Singing Dentist.

State records show that Dr. Calvin began practicing after his graduation from Dallas' Baylor College of Dentistry in 1989. He has had no disciplinary actions against him, according to the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners.

Local FBI agents searched Dr. Calvin's home in the 6200 block of Palo Pinto Avenue on Saturday. Two men from other states, whose connection to Dr. Calvin was not known, also were charged, the FBI said.

Agent Dzwilewski said the investigation spanned from New York to Florida. An undercover agent attended conferences organized by the North American Man/Boy Love Association, a group that advocates legalized pedophilia. He said the men discussed taking previous sex-related trips and "actively molesting children."

The undercover agent and the men planned the Mexico trip in recent months by phone and e-mail. They were arrested about 10 a.m. at Harbor Island in San Diego, the FBI said.

I think what the men planned was disgusting, but if they planned to commit a crime in Mexico, shouldn't they be prosecuted under Mexican law?

If I go to Denmark to smoke some pot, then I should be bound by the laws of Denmark, not the US.

Yes !

What kind of stupid question is that ? Do you *really* think that there is any significant number of people who think paedophilia is ok, as long as it isn't gay ?

That's pretty sick, but why is FBI wasting it's time protecting Mexican boys?
Shouldn't the Mexicans do that?

Supertool,

These are Americans planning on crossing the border to have sex with boys as young as 8. The crime they're charged with - conspriracy to do so - occurred in the USA. Were you being sarcastic or is it open season on whatever foreign place you plan on going?

Also note that there are lots of laws that project American values onto what is done overseas. The Foreign Corrupt Practices Act is a good example.

I think a sizeable proportion of men think it is more or less okay to fvck a 14 or 15 year old girl.

Your wrong on two counts. First one that a sizable proportion of men think it's ok to have sex with under age girls. Secondly the notion that you "think" because if you did you realize that your statement was totally absurd.

Send them to a mexican prison then. The mexican prison system will treat them much better than the U.S. system.

How else does one account for the large numbers of girls sexually abused by male relatives?
