Setup for Verizon, now that i got ROUTER and HUB??

well i just traded my fs105 switch and 1 fa311 nic which both were free after rebate to someone for these DSH Hub and this BEFSR11.
The hub was from like 2001 but should work fine. Anyway how do i setup my verizon account to work with these??? They are all hooked up correct and i have both xbox and pc pluggeg in but dont know what to do next from setup standpoint

PPPOE software is a "Dial in Type"; it initiates and keeps the connection alive while you are surfing. Verizon is using PPPOE.

The implementation of the PPOOE software (WinPOET) used by most ISPs seems to be Quirky, and with ICS (software NAT) it is VERY Quirky.

So you do not need PPPOE software since you got a Router.

Unfortunately most DSL ISPs do not give you an ID and password over the phone; they want you to get it online.

In such a case use single computer connected to the DSL Modem. Follow thier Installation Routine and establish an account. In the process you will be given ID and Password (write them down).

Once you have an account connect your Cable/DSL Router to the DSL Modem, and plug your computers to the Router.

Log onto the Router's configuration Menus. In the PPPOE menu type Username and Password, make sure that the PPPOE option is checked. Set the Router to obtain IP automatically.

As long as you don't switch off the DSL Modem, and the Router you are connected "forever" (the computer can be switched off). If you switch the Modem, and the Router off, when you switch them on again, it will take about 30-50 seconds to the Modem to obtain connection, and the Router will automatically connect to the DSL ISP.

You can uninstall WINPOET, and or whatever software they dished you.
Or if you want you can leave them installed; (The software PPPOE appears as another Dialup connection, in the Browser). Just make sure that the Internet Browser is set to use LAN, otherwise it will keep using the PPPOE.

The Router's PPPOE capacity is independent from the Computer, and it keeps the connection alive.

In case of PPPOE DSL Working through the Router should yield faster (5%-10%), and smoother Internet connection.

When every thing is done do not forget to optimize you TCP/IP for DSL connection.

Run the program, it will show the current settings of TCP/IP parameters. Write them down.

You can change any variable that you want, click Apply, and reboot the computer, if no good; you can always change to your original values.

Start with:

MaxMTU - for DSL =1492

Tcp Receive - 255552

Window Scaling - Yes

Time Stamping - No

Selective Acks - Yes

Path MTU Discovery - Yes.

Black Hole - NO

Max Duplicate - 2

TTL - 64

My account is already setup and have had nternet for 3 months. What is this LOG ONTO THE ROUTERS CONFIG MENU?? Sorry, i am a network idiot.

how do i find out my username and password??? I never installoed the stuff that came with my verizon setup. I just used an xp default connection. None of verizons software was needed

GOT IT WORKING. What going on now though. I was getting 1500 download as advertises and now it has dropped to 1140

Baically, i just hooked up a router to my 1.5dsl connection. Its a 1 port router which is then hooked up to a 5 port hub. Why when i go test speeds they show up at 1140 instead of 1500 now???
I tried dling some files but they were dling around the same speed of 185-190kb/s

I called verizon who told me to change some stuff but no speed difference. One thing was I went into my nforce MCP config and changed my speed duplex settings to Force 10 half duplex. Shouldnt i choose Force 100 full or 100 half or full autonegociation?
