Setup Cache Intel Rapid Storage

ForeverLost

Ok so I am trying to setup the acceleration on my primary OS drive which is a SSD 120GB drive. I also have a 20GB SSD that I want to use for caching built right on the board and a 1TB HDD used for data.

When I go into the Intel Rapid Storage Technology application it allows me to accelerate the HDD with the 20GB SSD, but I am unable to cache my OS drive the 120GB SSD. Maybe I am confused and you can not cache a SSD? Below is my IRST report on my PC. If you guys have any ideas I sure would appreciate it!

you cannot cache an SSD as far as i know. you can grab fancycache and try with that though. what type of drive is the OS one? if you're trying to cache something like a 120GB vertex3 with an intel 311, then it would be a bottleneck anyway. you can use some of your RAM as cache for the OS to take some of the random write stress off of the OS drive.

Thank you so much for the super fast reply. I was kind of thinking that might be the answer but wanted to be sure!

Thanks

Not sure about the mobo with the built in cache, but RST limits you to one cache device. If you want the benefits of a larger cache ( 64gb max ), you may be able to disable the on-board 20gb and go with the SSD.

Maybe I misunderstood the OP..

You want to cache your OS SSD to the mobo 20gb SSD ?

Why would you do that ?

Is your OS SSD too fast, and you want to slow it down ?
