setting up xp remote desktop connection through vpn

We have a sonicwall pro 230 firewall. Behind the firewall is a windows 2000 vpn server. Well whenever I vpn into the network and access a server it works fine. Bacisally I lunch remote desktop from xp. Now if I try to vpn into my desktop it tells me that it can't find my system but if I go back into the sonicwall and select accept fragmented packets it works. We are on a dsl connection here can someone tell me why this is the case.

Why do you have a 2000 VPN server? Why not use the built in gateway VPN support of the Sonicwall ( I do) and use the client? You can VPN into your network just like you were sitting on the LAN. remote desktop right thru the tunnel.

We have a sonicwall pro 230 ours only came with 5 vpn clients. Management did not want to pay out the extra money for 70 more user access licenses so since we had an extra power edge server we just used it. But mboy they are still going to have to pay sonic wall because the field clients need access to some apps here in the office the server thats running that vpn is a dual 2.4 zeon with 6 gigs of ram we are going to need that server to set up a windows 2003 application server for the field that will be running terminal services in application mode also it will have to double as a sql 2000 database server until we purchase a server for sql in November so I should be calling sonicwall next week with our visa in hand.

Remember those, VPN clients ( I assume you are using the latest Global vpn client 1.0.0.7 or something like that). They are concurrent licenses, so u can install them on 500 machines if you want, it just depends on the # of licenses to be able to access them at once. The licenses are around $42 each. Have u updated to the 6.5.0.3 firmware yet?

We attempted to update to the new ware about 2 weeks ago. It was terrible luckly I backed up the config before we started. The firmware locked up during the fireware upgrade I had to manually reset it and restore the config file I asked the guy from sonicewall support about it he simply told me that it happens sometimes. Needless to say we will not be buying anymore products from sonicwall we have started ordering from the cisco pix line.
