setting up windows networking

I don't know jack about networking, so I'll say that upfront.

I am installing win2k in vmware on top of linux. When I setup vmware I let it setup networking so win2k can see my linux host. It gave me the IP of 172.16.43.0 and mask of 255.255.255.0, because I didn't specify otherwise.

Now I am at the point where I have to set this up in win2k. When it asks for the domain, do I put in this IP address? Or how do I derive the domain from this address?

I figured I'll get a quicker response in OT 🙂

maybe, but its late and ppl are usually here at this time I think, but...

I'll be damned, it works

When it finished installing and rebooted I got a networking wizard which ASKED me if the network used a domain or not and I picked no. And that was it, it works, it configured DHCP and everything for me w/o asking anything else.

Maybe one of these days when its not 5am I'll look up what a domain is 🙂 I don't think it meant domain name, but I dunno
